Titianium valves Raptor
#1
Hey everyone. Man, I have been calling and calling and no one seems to know where to buy Titanium Valves for the Raptor. I called one shop who had some exhaust Ti valves but they wouldn't sell them. Some one has to know where to get some. If no one knows then I will call some custom valve shops and see what they can do for me. So what I need is either a place that sells the valves or the Valve specs for a '02 yamaha raptor so I can get them custom made in the future.
Thanks everyone.
Thanks everyone.

Personally I'd forget the Ti valves & get some high quality springs with good stainless valves. Unless you do a LOT of work & put in a wild cam you aren't going to make power above 7500 rpms any how.
I had some Ti valves built from chevy valves for my VW but after inspecting my valve & seats I decided I didn't need them & sold them to a drag racer at a profit. I do have very good springs & stainless valves ( they work great on my 9000 Rpm rev limiter) & they cost a hell of a lot less than Ti valves alone!

I'm just trying to think of everything. Nothing is being purchased this month for sure. Anyway, the shop claimed they had 2 exhaust valves made from TI but they took months to get or something, the shop owner was named Harry, and it was a popular shop in Dirt Wheels, I just don't remember which one I called. Anyway, yes, I have looked into the titanium valve springs from Alba. They are competetively priced at like $169 or so. Do you have any pros/cons on these. What kind of aftermarket retainers and seals would you suggest. Also, are the aftermarket stainless valves lighter than the stockers?

I think you're talking about Trinity racing.
I've not used or seen any of the things you noted but on my VW I did use Ti retainers for the weight savings & I think the Stainless valves I used were about the same weight as the stock iron valves.
The most important thing is to get the best quality springs you can.
You must have control over the valves to prevent flote & high quality springs are a good investment!
Ask the big shops like Sparks, Mickey Dunlaps FST or Trinity about the recomended open & closed spring pressures & if you shim the springs or get a big cam check for coil bind carefully!

Well, Sparks is going to be building my engine. I'm on the LONG waiting list I'm just trying to figure out all the little upgrades I will want since I have a while before the motor will be underway. I am definately getting the Ti springs and Ti retainers, that will help it rev quicker right there. It should complement the 690 kit quite well. I know they have to make a lightweight SS valve somewhere. If its anything like Mustang parts they do. Thanks for your input thus far Moose.

The stainless valve weighs 2 gramms less that the stocker intake and exhaust. 10 gramms total. The springs in the kits I have seen so far only have ti retainers and also use the stock keepers. I have checked the spring tension and also checked for coil bind and there is no problem with the spring kits that I looked at. A year is a long time to wait for mods that are available from other sources. Your questions are premature at this point because in a year there will be something new and better just like PC's.

Yes, a year is a VERY long time to wait I know. I just put my name on the waiting list, no obligations if things don't work out. I would go with another source if they proved reliable and consistent. What I know about the shops is pretty much what I hear. I have no personal experience with any racing shops. I have a local shop that I deal that I am sure could do all the work I need. My problem is finding someone who can do a GOOD port job. If I could find someone who really knew what they were doing when porting a raptor head, then I would buy the parts and get it done locally alot sooner than a year. Any reccomendations. The porting is the hardest part in my opinion, everything else is pretty straight forward as far as installing pistons and cams and what not.

Was the 1 year wait at Sparks for the complete 690 Kit or for just a port job?
I'd like them to do my head but by the time it was my turn I might already have a diffrent quad!!!
They are using my quads pic on their site maybe they'd bump me up to the front of the line LOL!!!

Thanks for the heads up on the Ti valve springs. I think everyone has persuaded me to forget the TI valves all together and just get some good SS. As to Sparks, yes their was a year wait on Porting also. They said that there was over 80 people in line already for motor work. As to getting All valves enlarged, what size are you recommending to enlarge all valves to? Have you done this yourself and if so how did it work. For the piston yes i'm getting 12:1 or 12.5:1 Cam is still undecided. Get back with me please.
