I have just started racing this month 2 hscrambles, 1 mx, I have an 02 raptor, with everything but new sup. front or back or Aarms, these could run as little as another 3000.00 which isn't the problem. Most of the guys that I see are on 400ex's and I was thinking of scraping the 9500.00 raptor and starting new with a 400ex geting the 440 big bore and all the goodies. What do you guys think would be the best to do? I have seen 02 400ex' going for around 4600.00 put another 5000.00 in mods. would this eat up my raptor. Another option is the cdale moto 440 I think the price is around 13,000.00 race ready, but I kinda like the hands on approach. Any ideas.

Thank you

well if you widen your raptor, add a pipe, jets, filter, and mabey some new shocks i think you'll eat anyone of the same caliber on any 440EX. unless it's one of those lone star/last rebel ones!

Go with the 440 it will totally eat the Rap in MX. You will feel less worn out after racing a RACE MACHINE not to mention a lot faster in the technical areas. It will only feel about 100 lbs. lighter when you get tired. Been there done that with 2 of my 3 Raptors. Rode the Z400 for the Wed. night practice at a decent MX park, I totally abused it and it still kissed me goodnight.

For $13,000 why not a C'Dale Moto? just wondering?
You might want to see what Hondas new quad will be.

For serious MX, I would scratch the rap. Don't know what to tell ya on which other quad to buy. If it was me, I'd go with the cdale. Or, buy a stock ex or z, and do the work yourself. There's a local mx track here, and when I take my rap out on it, it flat wears my @ss out. Of course, I'm no where near in the type of shape you mx guys have to be in to truly race, so that's kind of a mute point. After thinking about it more, I think you had the right idea, get a used ex, rebuild it to a hot 440, and whatever suspension work you want, and you'll probably come out under the cdale.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents...

Don't know if where you race its AMA rules and scoring. But if it is then you can only run one class with your raptor, Open class and maybe 30+ if you have it. The Honda you can run in fourstroke, open, 30+ and depending if you have any others. Just what I've learned this year.

If your racing primaraly MX, I'd say the best bet would be one of the Cannondales! I hear there great track quad's.

If you are racing MX , I'd say the CRF450 quad is the sheeeet!
