I have been kicking this question around at work for a while. I hate this change that Yami made in 02 to help rookie riders not flip the thing going backwards. They also changed the ratio which Im sure you all know (raptor owners) to make it slower. I can deal with that. What I cant deal with is why tehy put that limiter in. If you want to get out of somethin or back up hard you cant. It pops spits shoots does everything but go backwards fast...

So has anyone tried a 01 CDI unit on a 02-03 Raptor? I was thinking of it but we cant order electric stuff at work and return it and we never order these pieces for stock so I cant get around it anyway...(I might do it anyways [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] )

Do a search there are several kits to remove the rev limiter.

here you go. Raptor reverse rev limiter bypass.

 

You could just cut the wire and add an extension and ground it to the frame.
The wire goes in to the case behind the shifter (it’s not the one with the screw, it is the one that is covered by a boot. Follow that wire up (it should be white and green) you should leave enough wire length to reattach it later.
I would sugest soldring the wires together and using a solder on ring terminal to attach it to the frame.

$ .003 solder
$ .002 black tape
$ .05 Wire

 

FYI: REVERSE LIMITER
Warning: Dangerous Modification

To bypass the reverse limiter on ALL model year Raptors is to cut the GREEN/WHITE wire
near the CDI box and ground this wire that goes into the ignition. This tells the CDI that
you are in a forward gear, however the ignition will not be able to turn on the
reverse indicator light.
