My 2001 300 EX will not go in neutral most of the time. I checked the free play on the clutch handle and it seems to be OK. What should I be looking for?

yeah my 300 is real hard to put in neutral while its running to. but a method i use to help it get into neutral while running is to take a bungie cord and pull in the clutch handle and wrap it around. this releases the pressure on the clutch packs and makes it easier. i do this whenever i don't ride and now it will almost go into neutral everytime. something to try at least.

Same here.

I have a 96 and a 98 300Ex and neither one of them likes to go into neutral 75% of the time. Usually, I will just hold the clutch in, turn off the power, and then put it in neutral. Goes in real easy that way. I think it is just a 300EX thing.

Mine does that to, my dad a mechanic) says that one of the clutch plates might be warped, which would cause that. Since Honda isn't exactly known for strong clutches, that would be my best guess.

High idle speed causes hard shifting into or out of neutral especially. Sometimes it helps to disengage your clutch and move forward a couple inches, then try again.
