Long-time reader, first time poster...

Does anyone know about this guy's rebuilt starters?
http://www.stockers.com When I try to start the 500 all I get is a click from the solenoid - I've pulled and lubed the 'bendix' which seems to be OK - so I'm guessing a starter motor is in order but $270? Any thoughts or advise other than continuing to pull-start the thing.

I'm also getting some of what I think is rod rattle on the 500 so a crank and top-end rebuild may be in the works soon. From other posts it looks as though the Wiseco piston is the pick... can I put an HO cam in the non-HO 500? Will any gains be top speed and revs or will I gain bottom end power as well?

My 2-stroke 400L (my fave of the three)could use a little sprucing up so I'm thinking about a new pipe and a K&N air filter. Any advise on links to aftermarket pipe builders that will provide more fat throughout the rev range... I'm not as interested in top end due to the type of riding we do.

I had a Local starter/Altinator shop rebuild mine, cost me $42.00 You might check and see if there is a local rebuilder around you. mine had a siezed bearing and needed brushes.

As for pipes, there are really only 4 places (AAEN,RCR,HPD,HSP) They all have web sites.
Here is the only thing that Everyone that know a little something can agree on, When buying Polaris performance items, stick with those who know Polaris(HPD,HSP,RCR,AAEN). Once you decide on a manufacture use there product through out, they make there product to work with there specific products for best performance. If you do this you will be extreamly happy and have a sweet, powerful ride.

all your starter needs is a good cleaning, and a set of brushes.

altough you may also need 2 new housing o rings,and a new nose cone bearing,and seal.

the total cost would be $50-70 if you did it yourself.


a high compression cam, and a ho cam will give lots more power, but your gonna have to use the ligher gram primary weights from an ho, in order for it to rev where the cam is making power.
plus your gonna have to rejet the carb.
also a crab bore, or bigger carb would add a good bit of top end.


as for the 2stroke, a hi flow filter, low end pipe, with a matched clutch kit will give very good gains.

 

I am a real fan of the usual HPD,RCR,and Aaen, but for that 94 Sport, I would go with nothing else other than a Dynoport. I ran one on my 95 Sport 400L and it was incredible. You really do not have to change anything on the clutching if you dont want to. It makes a huge power and torque gain right off idle to the stock rpm of 5750. Your motor will live longer not turning it any harder. Just my .02 from experience.Bubba[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]
