Has anyone traded their dale in for a new one at the dealer? I have been all over the board with what I am going to do with my quad from getting a predator to getting a Z to keeping it and on and on. I love it for the most part but I think I could benefit from the updates on the 03' Mine quad is number 24, so it is basically an FX with red plastic, I did get a new motor awhile back, but I have the old gas tank, swingarm, all the routing is old, and the front end I think never got the updates, it is all out of wack and sketchy at high speeds, my friends who ride with me agree it is not stable over 30 mph, it wonders if you will. Anyways I assume a new 03 would be all better, so Has anyone traded in their steed on a new dale, and what do they give you for it?
thanks for your time

I don't remember the numbers but SparkyEX tried this and wasn't happy with the numbers they gave him. Most dealers I know for any brand work your trade value against msrp. Cannondale is a great company but a dealer is dealer and he has to make money off reselling your trade in. So if your quad is a year old and was 7000 new and he thinks he can get 5500 for it your gonna get a decent amount less than that. Especially since he now has to put the effort into reselling it. If you want to know more try puting a post up to get SparkyEX's attention maybe he remembers the particulars of the deal he didn't take.

I'm in a similar situation. Wanted to trade in my Cannibal for a Moto and dealer offered me $4K for mine. So, that would put me at about $10K to get the moto. I decided to put some of that money into mine to make it better. I'm pretty happy with the way it has turned out but still wish it had some of the updates like Hydraulic clutch, etc. I got the new tank and the new ECU, so it's pretty much the clutch that can't be updated.

Hope you have better luck with the trade.

Trout, I would suggest listing it on Ebay. Set a reserve price and start the bid lower. List some pictures as well. I sold my 250r for $5600 and I received over 2500 hits in seven days.
Definitely don't try to trade it in. Dealers don't give you squat. You're better off selling it yourself.
As far as the Z's are concerned, it's a great quad. The only thing I didn't like about mine was the rear suspension. It tank slapped through the whoops even after I set the sag and adjusted the rebound and compression. A new shock would fix the problem I'm sure. My Speed is like magic through the rough stuff. The faster you ride the better it works. I love the rear suspension! I would have kept the Z for myself but I passed it on to the wife. I couldn't pass the deal up I got on my Speed. You will have to do some motor work on the Z as well if you want to keep up with the Dales. Good luck to ya.

I would have to agree with buddah, the dealers won't give crap for the machine. I would put it either on ebay or cycletrader or even both. I've sold to suzuki quadracer in the past couple months on ebay. Don't get what I wanted out of them, but more than a dealer would have gave me. I wasn't too upset about considering how old they were. Goodluck and let us know what you end up getting for your next quad.

Hey Trout,

Unstable over 30. Check your toe in and front linkages. Hope this helps.

I had overheating issues too. I found a small leak in the coolant reserve tank. I replaced the tank and no more issues. Also, Check to ensure the cap is on tight. If it's not tight it will cause air pockets in the coolant and your engine will run hot. Good luck!!

On the over-heating problem. There is a problem with the early machines. There is NOT a baffel in the top of the radiator tank. If you look the water can go in and out without getting circulated. We took ours to a shop where they cut the tank open, installed a 90 with a piece of tubing on it to make the coolent flow to the other side of the tank. Welded it back up. He charged me $50 but I thought it was worth more with all the beer he wanted.
