Snorkle and K&N - No Jets
#1
I purchased the Snorkle and a K&N filter for use on my 650 at altitude. I did this thinking that I could get by without changing jets for a one week hunting trip to the mountains each year. Hopefully this will be enough to get me by. I seems like a lot of you are really playing with the jets to get them to run right and I don't have the desire or the ability (experience) of working with carbs in order to want to jump into this.
My question is how much will the snorkle and K&N lean out the mixture on a stock machine and what will happen (what will the effect be) if I run the quad at my Minnesota altitude (900 feet) with those changes made? I know rich will foul the plugs, and lean, what, burns holes in pistons? How likely, or how quickly could this happen at low altitude with these changes. Thanks for the input.

You might want to invest in a Dynojet kit it's well worth it. You are about the same altitude as myself and I went with a front 128 jet and a 132 in the rear carb. The needle clips were originally on the 5th slot but after I put on the Snorkle it did'nt want to start, so I moved the clip up to the 4th notch and it runs excellent, and starts better than when I first got it. How far are you from Sioux Falls S.D.? Also how do you like the 26" Bearclaws? I want to get a set before it snows. Do they rob a lot of power? I ride more in the winter, and use it for hunting and moving snow or just plain fun!!!!!

I am in the Twin Cities, so about 4 hours from you. I go through there to go on my Colorado and my western Nebraska hunting trips. I suppose I should probably get the dang jet kit, but I am happy the way it runs at my altitude, I would mainly be changing for the Colorado elevation. My little 220, that I took to western Nebraska at an altitude of about 4000 feet ran well, so I don't think I need it for there. I am just not the swiftest when it comes to carbs. As for the Bearclaws, I really like them, they hook up much better than the Dunlops, and I don't think they rob much power. Probably some, but there is enough power to go around anyway. I haven't gotten them in the mud yet, and it hasn't snowed here yet thankfully, but I hope they work well in snow and I do plan on plowing and I don't have a snowmobile, so I will play a little there too.
