I ride some MX...18x11x10 holeshots 19x6x10 Holeshots on .190 aluminum...
go ahead and order a $12 UNI pod filter (carburetor direct mount)...these tires help a lot...a 17" f/sprocket will give you good low end while still keeping an awesome top end..I race my DS on MX tracks and do pretty good..and im also little 15yrs old, 120lbs, 5'9...these tires are the #1 advantage on your competittion. If you have the money to order cams...that would help a lot. Ron Woods would do the trick, I also ride with a Pro Circuit, that is an awesome low end pipe for MX. On setup i like my Toe set straight up...i dont know about others....with the toe set straight up it corners on a rail...thats just me...I also like my suspension soft front and rear with a lot of rebound in the rear... Learn to ride with your front brakes, transferring weight and back the pig into every turn. Have fun!

Well, I disagree on the A-arms, unless you have $600 that you absolutely have to spend. I like the width of the DS, and I don't see a point in widening it more. I do agree that a set of Holeshot tires, a good set of cams, maybe a Hi-comp piston, and carb, and definately shocks would be good.
For cams, Piston, and a carb I would check out Ron woods racing, at www.rotax.net. they have some good choices. Don't get the TM45 carb, it looses low-end, which is critical for MX, go with the TM42 carb.
Shocks, I have heard of people bending works shocks, so for a moderately priced shock, I would look at Elka, or TCS.
Holeshots are best for MX, and 18's would give you the best accelleration, and low end, but you might get dented rims a little more often, because the DS hubs will not fot 8in rims, so the tire protects the rims less. If it were me, I would go with 20in Holeshots.
Also, a good clamp-on UNI filter will let the beast breath better.
Oh, I almost forgot, nerf bars! Get you a good set of Graydon nerf bars, everyone will tell you the same, don't even look for a different kind, just get the Graydons

The reason I suggested aftermarket a-arms is that with the abuse that mx gives your machine, alot of the stock pre-baja a-arms have the tendency to break the front shocks because of incorrect front end geometry. Pay now or pay later, the choice is yours. Ride safe!

I race a MX series here on my BAJA and love it and I'm doing quite well with my setup as listed, I also have the Holeshot 19x18 setup!!!!! Big help there, this winter I will be doing alot of work in preparing it to run both MX and XC next year, I will also be adding Works Shocks.
