when you split the cases what side should you pull so everything doesn't fall out? does anyone have a manaul that shows what order the tranny gears go?

Jeff might be able to help with the tranny since he has removed all the gears.

You have to make yourself an engine stand! The case should not be split without the motor being secured and level, with it's RIGHT side facing down (magneto side). The crank is very heavy and it can damage the bearings if allowed to tilt with cases loose/split. I made one out of wood. I bought some long bolts and some spacers to bolt the engine to the stand through the engine mounts.

You should have a service manual and parts catalog to refer to. There are shims on most shafts, both sides in some cases. You need to be sure you put everything back together exactly as it was!

People have broke those pullers on several occassions. I think MarkyNark or modquadracing had a heavier duty one made. I think the BMW F650GS part number for the puller is 125510. Heating the hub to 176 degrees was mentioned in BMW manual before pulling.

thanks, i was think of welding another nut to the puller and putting a new bolt though to pull it off. you think that might work? i will not have time to wait on parts if 'm going to race this weekend.

If you apply a small amount heat(with a torch)around the flywheel..it will pop right off (with the puller on it of course)

Hey Jeff- how about a "business trip" to Aledo on october 19th. No need to think about it just show up. You and Randy, Scooby, Dsmike, Dollarbills and Raptorboy 673 all race for the glory. I bet we could even get people to pay to watch those.
