Where is the best place to get a 43 tooth rear sprocket and a new chain to accomodate it? How big of chain will I need to run the 15/43 gearing?

angry with the 43 you will need the 112 link , it isn't much fun getting the rear hub off either. hang on the 43 make a hugh difference.

15-43 is really short gearing. That is alot of top end to give up. You running in the sand?

15/43 is short if you run 20 inch tall tires if you go too 22 inch tall not so bad. The top seed with my setup is 79.2 MPH, stock was 83.2 approx. You all so have to take in consideration where you ride. I ride 99% Glamis and I never saw 5th with stock sprockets 16/40. If I did more riding where I was in 5th gear all the time may be. Most of my dune riding is done in 3rd or 4th gear. If I did more flat drag racing, MX or desert riding I would say with stock or a 17/40 setup to stay in gears longer

I'm kind of puzzled here.

Wouldn't it be better to take advantage of you stongest gears???(1st,2ng,3rd) by gearing up, rather than gearing down???

It seems that rindering you strongest gear useless(1st) is wrong. I however ,have never raced "up hill" like you do at Glamis, but gear Ratio's are gear Ratio's right???

I am curious and interested in the best gearing for the DS, and would like to learn all I can.

the 15- 43 is for hill racing in the sand out here, but we do race on the flats, and if you guys are racing 300 and 600 feet i never get caught before that seems like it takes a full mile or more. and for playing in the bowls and just fun riding that gearing , works great for pulling the front end up. it works so well that my slight mods was beating stage 2 woods kits, he was running 16-40 22' haulers. needless to say he wasn't happy, but i'm more excited to go back with the cam and piston in mine! the other area it works good is for bigger riders. you can get the rear sprockets from woods an alba. there about $50 . seems a cheap o- ring chain is about $80. seems like the street bikes are running the 530. so check on those. the cdi box is almost a must since it does get to the shift point fast. the other thing is you skip first gear, making the chance of hitting neutral less likely, although there seems to be a mystery one inbetween 2&3.

one more thing can you guys pull 5 gear in the sand with stock gearing? with 15-40 and 20' hauler it isn't a very strong pull on the ds's i've been around. i don't run tachs on my machines so i can't say what they are pulling to.
