Is it ok to use K&N air filter cleaner and oil on a stock 400ex air filter?

Why not? Aside from that, seeing as you already have the oil and cleaner, pitch the old filter in a box and just buy a K&N. Then when you sell it, and buy a new one, put the old filter back on before you sell it and put the K&N on the new one.

The K&N oil is set up for cotton or gauze type media,it is thinner, and not tacky like foam oil. the gauze is finer,so it needs an oil to flow into all the fibers evenly. The foam type oil is thicker, that is why they recommend you work it into the foam for good coverage. Touch a foam filter after it is oiled-see all the little stringers come with your finger? that is to catch dirt as it bumps into the open cells in the foam. The thinner K& N oil will cover a foam filter, but without the 'sticky', a lot more dirt will get by. Hope this explains it for you.
