I left work yesterday and went to local motorcycle shop..
Hour and a half later I had just purchased a new honda recon es
It is a 02 model and I guess I did ok.. Got a financing rate of 6.9%...I will pick it up saturday
Only thing I dont really like or should I say know about is the electronic shift.
I usally stay away from things that have more new bells and whistles because that is usually the first thing that breaks.
So does any one know if the ES is dependable?..I know its a honda and it has to be a little..being it was a honda is why I overlooked the ES.
Oh and before you ask I do not like suzuki..I did look at the ozark... was not impressed.
Suzuki may be good but I never seen one I liked. Some of my friends had one and I was not impressed...(stayed in shop more than they rode)...
So the ozark was not special enough to pull me from a honda

ku4gi,
They didn't offer ES, three and half years ago when we purchased our Recon so I can't help you on that.
Our 99 model (+375 hours) has been a good machine, has been kept maintained and has not been back to the dealer.
I would say keep the battery charged up when you don't ride the machine and you will be as happy as I have been with our shift model.

If your friends Suzuki was in the shop what was it in there for. I've had my Wifes Ozark since they came out. My son races it in atv rodeos and not only outruns Recons and 250exs but also Ranchers and it has never even had a hiccup much less a reason to take it back to the shop. Being brand loyal is OK I guess but saying another machine is always torn up just to make your brand loyalness sound OK is BS.OOPS Never mind this is the Honda forum. LOL

I admit the ozark looked better.
But I have honda and kawasaki motorcycles and a yamaha quad.. never had probs out of any but the yamaha...
Ok I will be totally honest with you that was not the only reason I did not buy the ozark.
The other reason is because I got a good deal on the 2002 recon because it was one of the only two that they had left.
And suzuki did not have 6.9% financing..
So it would have cost me a good bit more..
so I can not say ti was totally about brand loyalty.

If you didn't like the idea of the ES then why didn't you get a standard tranny? You could have probably gotten an 03 with a standard transmission for what you paid for the leftover ES.

No I could not get a 03 for the same or I wolud have done that..
As for my opinion about suzuki. It's just my opinion... If you like them great...they are not for me...
And yes I do know some people that had there suzuki's in the the shop all the time.. And it is not just because honda is better. (oops) or I am biased.
Now all in all its just different strokes for different folks...
How boring would life be with only one brand of four wheeler?
And how boring would these forums be if you could not get peoples blood pressure up..
And If I made anyone mad about my views I apologize.. And Invite you to come down and go riding with a good ole alabama boy and lets see if we can find some good mud and hills to ride on. And maybe get a cool one or two (dont drink and ride)
Can't we all just get along?

I'm fixing to buy a leftover 2002 Prairie 650 for the same reason. I can't pass the deal up and I will get more use out of it than I do the sport quad. Besides I have 2 boys so I will always have a sport quad around to ride if I feel the need and I'm betting my Prairie will outrun my son's 400EX fairly easy the way I'm going to set it up.

zookyridr,
Those prarie's are pretty cool.
I would love to have one or one of the grizzlies.
You gotta love when the new year models come out and you can get a brand new quad for a substantial amount diferrence just last years model..
I just with I did not have to wait till Sat to pick mine up.. I dont have a trailer or a ramp. I dont want to use ramps because my truck is really big and It would not be fun to get it out.. So I have to wait for my buddy to help me with his trailer.. Not only that They close before I get off work.
But Sat it is on Me and my friend who has a grizzly will be tearing up the trails..

I have upgraded the tires a couple of sizes on my Dodge Diesel and with my 6 foot ramps you are really climbing a mountain to get her loaded. I liked the Grizz also but the sound of that V-twin was music to my ears.
