Just got my tach in, not really impressed!!

I was all hopped up as I just got my tach. I was a bit disapointed, its looks sorta cheap, and when you turn the machine off it sticks at 2000 RPM. It hits 0 when the key is turned. It seems to idle at 1500-1800 is this normal?? For $235 I was expecting more. You get a WAY NICE car tach for 220. Just my .02 cents...

I've noticed that it sticks around there on mine too, but only if you turn the bike off by turning the key off. If you use the switch then it should stick at 0.???

I was under the impression that all aftermarket tachs will "stick" when the key is turned off. The cheap ($40) one I had in my sandrail did, and my cousin's high dollar memory tach in his mud racer is the same. I would be worried if it didn't stick or even float up a little when the key is turned off.

Mine idles at around 1300-1500. There is a little screw you can turn by the choke,( I'm sure you already know this) it adjusts the idle, just do that and listen to the sound and watch the tach at the same time. Yours seems to be idling just barely too high. Hope this helps.

I was looking into a tach and found a Shints(?) digital one that was in the Parts Unlimited street bike catalog. It was very reasonably priced. Does anybody know if these digital tachs will work on a DS? They said they are good for 1-8 cylinders and the one i was looking at can go to 19,999 rpm.
