Default just got back from 1st time dune riding in glamis

well i just popped my cherry in duning at glamis this weekend and it was the best thing ever. even though i got a flat in the trailer going there, i had some kinda electrical problem so i had to run the generator prettey much the whole time, and bent my bars within 20 mins of riding. the poker run was fun and let me go to all the good sites. the best part of the whole thing was beating the raptor that i went with with pretty much the same mods by about 3 lengths at all the hills and china wall after all his sh** talkin, and being dead even with a piped banchee all weekend. now i need to know y when i pop into 5th on the drag i start losing steam??? right before i left i went with the carb mount uni airfilter without jetting so im hoping that that is all it was. i did go with the 22x11x10 x9 extreame haulers if that has anything to do with it. and also when i bent the bars while doing my first indo and bailing out infront of the quad and then having it land on me with no bumps or bruises, the stearing stem paint looks like it is chiping just below the bar mount. i hope this is just from it flexing a little and not cracked. any info on these minor problems would be greatly appriciated thanx .

Welcome to the dune running club!!! It's a blast to rip up some sand!!

i bent the bars while doing my first indo and bailing out infront of the quad and then having it land on me with no bumps or bruises
That's something most first timers do! I'm glad the damage was minamal.
You always should scout the dunes before you start playing. Fortunatly sand is much more forgiving than dirt or trees!!
You need to rember that sand is very fluid & is constantly changing. With just a couple of hours of brisk winds that dune you went over with a nice rolling top can become a big razorback with a dangerous dropoff. They haul out injured ATVers every weekend at Little Sahara, OK & they've been averaging 1 death a year!!
Some people we race with made their first trip to Sahara & within 15 min she had a broken collar bone & 45 stiches in her leg & he had a compound fracture of his leg!! These were both experianced riders but they got excited & didn't scout the dunes.

Alswys scout the area out & know what is on the other side of the dune before you go flying over it!!!

now i need to know y when i pop into 5th on the drag i start losing steam??? right before i left i went with the carb mount uni airfilter without jetting so im hoping that that is all it was. i did go with the 22x11x10 x9 extreame haulers if that has anything to do with it
You may be a little over paddled, Sand really takes a lot of power, the paddles are taking a lot of power to turn.
You need to balance the need for a hard launch with the power to turn them in higher gears.
I went with the 8 paddle 22x11x10 Extremes & they pull well all through the gears.

As I stated in your other post, I bent my bars as well and my stem has some cracked paint as well. I think your right about the paint cracking under the stress. I know that it's just the paint and not the stem I looked it over carefully. I would just give it another look.

I would guess you'd need around 50 HP to pull the 9 paddles in the higher gears so what ever you need to do to get there. I don't have any experiance with the DS's to know how to get there.
For now try gearing down a bit.

Yes, get the cdi, it's the best mod avail for the ds in my opinion.

as far as the popping goes, sounds like your running a little rich. What do the plugs look like.

So where were you guy's parked at? I was at Keyhole on Gecko road. There are so many freakin people out there it looks like an ant farm. LOL. I don't think I will stay at Gecko Road again unless I can get there on a early Friday afternoon or something, we got there on Saturday and there was only one place left to park on that whole damn road! I would hate to see it on a holiday weekend! I am having second thoughts about going there this weekend just due to the fact it is a Beotch to find parking. It's nothing like Dumont, the parking there is awesome! I really liked Glamis and I think I need to ride there a couple of more times before I can give it a fair rating, but for now St. Anthony's is still by far the best riding yet. So who is going to Glamis this weekend? Dumont?

I'll be at Glamis Friday morning, we'll be staying on Gecko rd. I can try and save you some space if you like.

That would be awesome Taxi! there are those nice spots that are kind of deep where you can back your trailer gate right onto the sand and be on the pad still. I think pad 2 and 3 are like that. I have that 30 footer so I kind of need the space. A lot of people were taking cones out there and running caution tape around them to save spaces for friends maybe you could do the same? Keep in touch ok. Thanks Tony.
