Last week i had a post about a quieter silencer for my TB with HPD pipe. I liked the FMF silencer but too expensive so i purchased the DG type II silencer. I like the way it looks, it is quieter than my HPD silencer and it sounds good but it is still too loud. My question is for MODQUAD, TALONHAWK or someone that has experience with slencers, Can i make this silencer any quieter. Different packing or something?

The adding more packing sounds like a good idea but I don't know for sure!

 

Hey I had the same problem had a 400 scrambler with a DG silencer and pipe. I actually took the silencer apart ,and squeezed the pipe (with all the holes in it) together a litttle bit, in a couple of spots. I also installed the tip upside down so the pipe was at an angle. It helped a little bit, but I ended up putting a stock silencer on, and it is still pretty loud with the pipe.

You can try like talonhawk said and try more packing material. I think I heard 4 stroke packing is more resrictive also, not sure on that.

I really think you are between a rock and a hard place. No one really suggested the DG, they are loud. The FMF turbine core is not to bad but is still louder than you probably want but better than most.

You really sould look into my first suggestion (Stock 400 muffler).
Don't buy a new one, You know one of these guy have one laying around. I see them on Ebay all the time.
That will probably get you down to an acceptable noice level for the wife,

Between the Turbine Core II, older HSP billet, new HSP spark arrested, and the new HPD MTQ, the qietist silencer I've tested (this in on race mod with new HPD ATV8 pipe)was the HPD MTQ. But I had to install the quieting kit (worm clamps w/kevlar strips to get it down to 98 db at 3000 rpm. I also installed 3 of the clamps on the pipe, that knocked over 9 db off up front. By the way, I used two clamps on the silencer. The clamps didn't make a difference on the HSP unit. All readings were taken with a digital Radio Shack meter...the same one most DNR's use.

I haven't done anything modifying wise with the DG. I sold mine quite a while back....too loud. I would go with what the others said and repack it. You could try the external clamps/kevlar kit from HPD, but I think that only really works good with the larger diameter/volume units.....I could very well be wrong though. Never hurts to try.
