250r vs. 440ex vs. ltz400

a 400ex with ONLY a 440 big bore kit will still be slower than the z400. without a pipe, filter, and cam the 440 only makes slightly better bottom end and still dies up top like a stock one. the 250r and the z400 also handle better than the 400ex. i would say z400 if you don't want to spend alot and do alot of maintenance, or 250r if you want to buy a used machine and then tear it completely appart and spend alot of money getting it back into shape as most 250r are pretty beat now(i'm talking about ones you see for sale, not hightly modified race machines).

My wife rides a z400 and it is a great quad. I think the 250R is much more fun than the z400. BUT...If you buy a 250r, plan on tearing it completely apart and rebuilding everything. It seems that even the 250R's that are being sold as "good condition" quads, are usually pretty beat.

I have to agree that a 440 ex will beat a stock Z. However if you are looking for something for racing you could by a Z, modify it to be a 440 for around the same as modifying the ex and have more bang for the buck. I think the Suzuki responds better to mods than the ex and you have a little more power to start with. If the comparison is between a stock Z and a 440 ex then the ex should win hands down.

i agree the z handles very well, but so does the ex i have rode both machines and both handle great but with the 440kit , a pipe with a K&N the z will eat roost, but stock for stock i agree the z will whoop the ex!!! but the z is also way moreadvanced than the ex just wait until honda introduces the 450ex then everyone will be praising honda ...... agian

hey i know of a quad that s better then a 440 ex and a Z400 a Z440 they did an article on it on the new dw the Z smoked the ex in the power department and they had faster lap times on the z get a z400 and put a 440 kit on it and you'll be set
but a 250r is still an excellent quad it would be my next one if they still made them new
