CRF450R-"one of the magic motors of our time"
#1
That is what the December issue of Dirt Rider (pg. 62) called the 450. The dyno on pg. 122 looks good too. After the 2-strokes have fallen off the curve, the thumpers are still making power. The CRF is putting out 40 hp at 11,000 rpm!!

YZGUY- Do you want buy one? My Lonestar CRF450 has only about 5 hrs. I would possibly take something for the woods in partial trade. There just isn't enough close places to ride the CRF so I've been on the trails lately with the Green Machine.

Rod-I don't think I would trust the motor in a quad. What makes a great dirt bike MX motor, isn't necessarily the same thing that make a good desert race quad. I did this post to suggest that this engine has a lot of potential, but I think it will need some changes to make it a durable quad engine (it got a new cam for 03, which gives more low end). Honda now has a CFR250X, off-road version of the CRF250R. And, there is some speculation that there will be a CRF450X (maybe these will eventually replace the XR line??). So, that suggests that Honda has some faith in the durability of these engines.

This motor is awesome in a quad. If Honda is replacing XR's with these hot motors, they have to be very reliable. It's hard to beat the quality of a Honda. The CRF has monster power .
I'd take $13,500 or partial trade with any decent quad or quads.
