Default Eiger vs. Big Bear 400?

I've narrowed my atv choices to either the Big Bear 400, or the Eiger 400. Both 2wd (dont need 4wd). Both dealers are matching each other's prices at $4397, out the door, and both are with a winch. I'm new to the 4-wheeler market, I had a Big Red 3-wheeler for a year. A buddy of mine has a Big Bear, so I am kinda familiar with it, I know nothing about the Suzuki, only that it has high and low range, unlike the Big Bear. I ride mostly trails with some light mud and a couple of creek crossings with sandy banks. It will be used mainly for utility (pulling a plow, riding fence lines, moving downed trees,) and trailriding. Any opinions on either one? What are the differences?

You have picked two atv's that have very similiar features. I have never riden a big bear, but I have driven the eiger alot. I like the way the eiger rides, smooth and the engine is not noisy. Both machines are well built machines. The Big bear has Yamaha's reliable engine and good tranny. I like both machines and rank them pretty equal. If you are doing alot of trail riding, the big bear is more of a compact machine to get into those tight corners, but again they are both good dependable atv's. So, in this case you can flip a quarter and whatever the outcome is......you will be happy with either machine.

If you want to do any fast trail riding the Big Bear is very low geared. I've ridden both and the Eiger is much faster. But like you said, for utility work both will work great.

i've never ridden an Eiger, but we like our Big Bear. it tops out at about 45 or so, but it is a good trail machine, and good for working.

The Eiger has about everything the Big Bear does, but more of it. It has a stronger engine, more speed (around 55) hi-lo range. It doesn't have the adjustable shocks, but still has a better ride. It has a big cushy seat for long rides, great mud protection, and lots of ground clearance. I am not sure of some of the recent BB updates but I know the Eiger starts in gear, has a great waterproof storage box and strong racks. Add some big meaty tires and you will be surprised where it will go. The price seems a little high, especially for this time of year. I got mine for $3975 plus tax. You might even be able to find a leftover '02 model, the only thing they changed was putting a bigger fuse in the accessory jack. They also have a winch deal on too, I think. I was very pleased with my Eiger. Good luck!

Both are fine bikes but the Bear is very low geared. I'm always looking for a 6th gear when I ride one. The Eiger is funner to ride but the bear is a proven capable though less refined quad.
