My DS starts and runs just fine (except for the little stumble at about 1/8 throttle) but it smokes a blackish color & has a sweet kinda smell

Whats my problem?

Sweet could be coolant in the exhaust. Check your head Gasket.
Black is RICH, way RICH.

I'll check the jetting tomarrow........I just replaced the Head Gasket, so I doubt thats the problem. I wanted to get new head nuts but noone within a 55-60 mile radius has flanged nuts. So there is nothing I can do there.

Thanks

If not the head gasket.

If you are rich, CO is the may be the smell. CO is unspent fuel (result of beign rich.) I don't know if I would classify the smell as "sweet" but, don't know what I could classify it as otherwise (except just exhaust.)

If it is stumbling at 1/8 throttle, that should be the pilot jet. Are you rinning the stock carb? Is your K&N a direct mount filter? Have you ever had your valves adjusted?

WOW, not often does a Cannondale rider get props from the DS crew. THANKS.

I started a new job so Time is limited.

Should have the quad back Tuesday.

Now back to the question.

I don't think the pilot could flow enough fuel to be burning Black, but I've been wrong before.

Are you overheating, or boiling over?
Is the head torqued to spec?

Double check your work, IMHO.

Smitty I take it you have access to a cnc mill or did you buy those parts, never theless those look sweet. I wish I had a decent cnc mill, the aluminum possibilities are endless.
