i just bought a sp700 about a month ago, i love it. two of my buddies just bought 660 griz, one is an 03, and the other an 02 i think, maybe 03. next spring we'll be riding together and i was wondering what to expect. there will be lots of good natured ribbing of the slower machine, hope it's not me. anybody put their 700 up against a 660 griz??? at least i've got the better tires, maybe i'll get through more mud holes!!!!

ATV Magazine did a four-way comparo of the Grizz, Sp700, Rincon and Prairie 650. The Prairie was first in the drags, followed by the Grizzly, the SP700, and lastly the Rincon. However for some idiotic reason the Grizz came in fourth (because the morons can't see past sportiness to the true usefulness of a utility quad -- a perfect example of why the Prairie keeps winning all these comparisons).
For mud, tough call. Both have lockers.

Hey yoopermike I have a 02-700 and my buddy rides a 660 and yes they are a little faster then the 700 in about 200 yards he-ll beat mt by 2 bikes but he is about 100 pounds lighter then me.And as far as him kidding you about having a slower atv then him tell him you want to hook them back to back and pull them youll kill him.THe 700 is all about tork. And youll have plenty of JAP jokes to hit him with...

We've raced those two before and the Sp700 won. Not by much, but enough to win. As to hooking them back to back, the SP700 will pull that Griz any where it wants to go as long as they don't both dig themselves in their own holes. If you hook em up on pavement, the Griz is doomed.

Elroy and Bill hit it right on the head......Sportsman are all about torque and do have some acceleration too. It also depends on who is riding them and who they are riding against....each situation is different based on other variations. I would still take the sportsman over the Yamaha any day when it comes to utility quads...ride on

I remember reading a lot of posts when the 700 first came out, and they mostly said the Griz was a little quicker, but the Sportsman 700 was faster on top end.

I can't honestly say I rode a Grizz660, but I did ride with one and I did ride a 700. My opinion is, put the same wheels and tires on the Grizz and I think it will be a little bit more fair. I also hear the Sportsman can beat the Grizz in a long race, but lost in the shorter ones. So this obviously tells you that the Sportsman can beat it, it just takes longer to accelerate to top speed. I'd put a clutch kit on that beast and you'll get better acceleration.

i just recently put in an epi clutch kit and it's great, the best part about it is that my grizzly buddies can't see the mod and don't know about it, heh, heh, heh!!! they'll be wondering WTF!

You put a clutch kit in that sp700 and you won't have to worry about the 650kawi either. The polaris mechanic here did a sp700 all up (pipe, head work, clutch kit.......................) and was racing banshee's and raptors (who also had a few mods on them) Stock the sp700 is a little sluggish (compared to after a clutch kit)
