38mm mikuni carb question
#1
I just bought a carb from ebay last week.I dont think its a tmx as there is no tmx writing on the carb anywhere.Where can I go(on the net)to find out what carb this is?There are some numbers stamped on the body now.Its soaking in carb cleaner in the garage.Just trying to see if this will work on my xplorer or should I just keep the 34?Thanks.

Hey Scott, the 38mm will work good. Might have to play with the jetting a little, but in the end it will give excellent bottom response with a gain throughout. The choke cable should hook up to it, but the biggest thing you will have to do is adapt the airbox to the back of the carb. You might check with Hotseat Performance or Aaen. One of them sells the airbox adapters for the larger carb. The need for power just keeps growing, doesn't it???? LOL. Bubba

Scott, you knw you can buzz me anytime if you want. Heck that goes for anyone if you need help or want to give me help. My number is 479-967-4589. Leave me a message and I'll buzz you back if you dont get me. The jetting will be somewhere in the larger 200 range. My wife's Scrammy runs a 260 main in the 34mm. I know a guy on race mod with a 38mm TM, and he runs a 310 main. I would start with a 280 or real close and go from there. It shouldnt be too hard to tell if it's rich. You can also move the clip on the needle down a notch to richen it up on part throttle for a starting point. hollar if you need help. By the way, Are you fairly close to St Louis? Bubba

I promise the added low end torque will amaze you. I put the 38TM on my 350.
Bubba, as you probably guess, I haven't got the cylinder off of the 350 yet. Give me time. If you are over in the Yami forum, read my thread about wearing your helmet. I am still recovering from that.
