I have an 01 400 with the ACT Suspension. I really like it and it gives a smooth ride. There hasn't been anything that I haven't been able to climb or game I couldn't haul out. The only draw back is that I have trouble keeping up with my dads 500 sportsmans when we are riding down the roads. However once we get off on to a trail I can keep up with him just fine. I would take the AC over the rancher any day!!! The ACT Rear Suspension is 100 times better than the solid axle of the Honda.

A buddy is looking to buy an AC 400 4x4 ACT today! I looked at it, and read the review in this month's DW.
I am concerned about a few things. First, no locking differential. Second, linked braking. Third, top speed. This is his first ATV, so these may not be a problem for him, unless he tries to follow me!
It sounds like a good utility quad, but he will be using it for rec purposes only. What do you guys think? He is set on Arctic Cat, has a good relationship w/the dealer. Is there another quad that would better suit a rider who wants to play more than work?
Thanks for your response!

You have a good bike. I'm pretty sure it has a low range reverse too, and to be truthful, I can't think of any other bike that you can buy (other than maybe a suzuki) that will have this. My 99 had it. I could tell a world of difference backing up into the truck if I had it in low than in high.
You will like that ACT suspension too after you drive through a couple of funky places that are uneven and have a few rocks here and there. I loved my old 500. It steered heavy (but then again it was a 99), and wasn't a speedster, but it was tough and almost impossible to flip over.

What kind of performance parts are available for this atv? He is interested in putting on a pipe once it is broken in. Where can we find the parts? Ive done a search but didn't turn up much. Thanks!
