Default 400EX TICKING?

Hi All,

My 400EX is starting to make a ticking sound. I just had it jetted, new air filter, and oil, change done recently. It sounds as if the motor is getting sloppy. The oil levels are right so it's not that. An ATV mechanic said that the idle might be to low and that the ticking is a something chain (Sorry, can't remember the verbiage he used) and that the valves need to be adjusted. The valves have not been adjusted yet. The bike is 6 months old with about 40 hours on it. Does all that sound right?

Thanks

Adjust the valves!
(or have them adjusted)

It should make all the difference.

My local dealer recommends adjusting valves at 20 hours.

I just had my valves adjusted and had the idle looked at. I cannot believe what a huge difference it made. I swear it's like a new bike. To say the least I am very happy now!!

Did it seem to help any in the power department?

I did notice a power increase. Now I am unsure if that was from the valve adjustment or the throttle & idle adjustment. I can tell you that it seems like I did pick up some more power. The mechanic did state I would feel a power difference now that I think about it. I do know that it runs alot smoother and has some more pep.
