Default Prarie 650/360 Question

I recently purchased a Prarie 360. The check belt light is on and when you put it in strain the belt will squeel. I am planning on having the belt checked by my dealer.Does the 650 and 360 have the same trans? I have seen several posts about springs , shims etc. for the 650.Just wondering if some of these ideas would work on the 360. Also I have had a 300 Prarie (2000). I had no trans problems at all. Did the belt and trans design change that much?

Thanks,

J. Prentice

The 360 & 650 are very similar, if not exact. They are both very different from the 300.

Default Prarie 650/360 Question

I spoke to Erlandson Performance today and they recommend a 'red spring' for the 360. The black spring is recommended for the 650. As it was explained to me, it increases the tension in the belt, which then in turn gives you better throttle response and helps maintain peak rpm's.

The spring costs about $25.00. Check out their website at http://www.erlandsonperformance.com

Bitte,
Are you going to install the spring yourself? If so let me know how hard it was. I might go on and get a red spring also.

Thanks,

Default Prarie 650/360 Question

I hoping that my dealer will install the spring when I go in for the 10 hour service. If not, i'll be doing it myself. I would recommend checking out the following website; http://atv.dnsalias.com/. If you follow a few links, this guy has changing of the spring documented, including pics.

Hope this helps!

Default Prarie 650/360 Question

My dealer wouldn't ajust my belt or warranty it for wear and squeal. It's not a covered item.
So I had to buy new belt for $90.00 and $50.00 to install it. Guess what, it was squealing while loading it on the trailer.
Dealer said they didn't have tool yet to work on it.
When they got their tools the belt was worn and it's not a covered item. BULL-BULL#%&*@$%#
You know what I mean.
So I bought service manual, in it it say's you can perform your own service, as long as a record is kept and recipts are saved. Installed new belt and adjusted it to .87", works good now.

Have owned 3 Polaris's and never needed to replace belts for squealing or excessive wear.
put over 5000 miles on one belt, so I replaced it and kept the old one for spare.

On a Polaris after 1 or 2 years, there is enough stretch to loose 5mph or so.
