My Lakota needs to go on a diet!!

Does any one have a way,or idea on how to cut weight on my kota? My goal is to get 30 to 40 pounds off it.
Is that possible?
What has worked, what has'nt?
I run pretty much a stock machine, but this weekend I did flip my front wheels. WOW what a difference!! Handles real close to my 400ex now.(that is with out the power, and the fact that it's way heavier) Turns real good thou!!
I am real curious what less weight could do for it.
So any thoughts, ideas, or proven ways would be helpful. I think I am going to cut weight befor I add power.
Hopefully in a couple of weeks I will have some ideas for all of you Lakota people

I took off my heel guards when I put on Nerf Bars (because heel guards would not work with the DG Nerf Bars) as I remember each heel quard was pretty heavy but I dont know how much they weighed. Douglas rims are lighter than the stock steel rims. SuperTrapp IDS pipe is lighter than stock. Do a search and you will find that this mag did a list when they modded their Lakota and on the last page they list the weight savings.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it turns out.

I think that the Lakota would have been more popular if they had kept the weight down around the 380-400 lb area, I know that it would be alot faster with less weight. I dont really feel the weight on the trails, but I know I sure feel it while jumping and going thru whoops on a mx track. Also, just imagine what it would have been like if it had a manual clutch, there use to be a guy on this forum who had a Lakota that had a manual clutch conversion. If you are serious about losing weight on the lakota then you would probably want to change the axl, rims, handle bars, footpegs, and of course like LisaG said drop the heel gaurds. Bacially change everything that is steel to aluminum. Just my $.02

Stock Lakota rims are actually aluminum and lighter than .190 Douglas wheels. They are pigs, no doubt. Would be nice for someone to come out with alum. a-arms and longer swingarms. Dreams, I know. I put a set of Renthal bars on mine and they are quite a bit lighter than the stockers. Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do at this point to lighten them up significantly. By removing the heel gaurds, adding an IDS2, removing the air box, and swapping out for Renthal bars, I think you can save upwards of 20 - 25 pounds. That's about all I know of. Please any additional thoughts or ideas, pass them along.

Take the stock mud flaps off! and the brackets for that! That will save about 10 poundds!

I dont know about the 2000 model but I just checked my koda with a magnet and mine are steel, I know this also because 3 days ago I fliped my front wheels and had to drill new valve stem holes and they are definatly steel. I called my dealer and he checked a 2002 and a 2001 with a magnet, they are steel. I know him a little and I see him on the trails where I ride, he rides a sooped up Mojave and I think its his wife, not sure, but the lady he rides with is always on a Lakota that's green with racks, dont know what year, but he says both of his kawasaki's at home have steel.
