When i ride my pa's P650, i always try to be stoped when going into 4wd..but i find when i put it in 4wd, it doesnt go in..i can sit there..nothing! I have to give it some gas and start moving, then it will kinda pop into gear..is this normal??

Yes this is normal...you have to start moving for it to kick in. So, shift into 4 wheel BEFORE you head up the hill! I also don't come to a complete stop...I do slow down quite a bit and have never had any problems.

The electronics cause shifting between 1.5 and 12mph. The front diff always turns, so there really isn't any impact, wear, or danger associated with shifting while moving.

There have been people who have damaged theirs by having the rear wheels spinning fast and the front not spinning when they shifted into 4x4.

It is always smart to shift while moving before you get to the hairy spots.

Same thing applies to the diff lock, vehicle speed doesn't matter. If the left tire isn't going the same as the right tire, then there is a high impact.
