First Impressions Of 27" Tri-Claws on Magnum 500
#1
I am wondering if I should just remove my AWD system and save weight.... I got these tires mounted Friday, took it riding Saturday.. and late last night I realized that I hadn't used my AWD all day..????
Took it back out today... rode for HOURS... Mocassin Slough, Mary's Mudhole... you name it.. Ran in 2x4 all day long... The only time I turned on the AWD was to go thru the duckpond for some pictures( it just looks cool to see the front tires "walking" on water!!)
I wonder how hard it would be to put a 27x12x12 Tri-Claw Magnum on the back of my sons Honda XR-80R dirtbike!!! hahahhaha...
I am VERY impressed with them.... Haven't put my lift kit back on the front end yet.. they rub slightly when turning and hitting a bump at the same time.. Will get to that next week..!!

Bill.....
Ok.. but you know what I'm trying to say.. these tires are awesome and I can see whats been said about them before about them chunking stuff out away from ya.. instead of like a Vampire.. straight up and back down on ya..
I pushed all mudholes except for the major ones that are stiff mud thats about 8-10 ft. deep.. you gotta be on a borrowed machine to try something like that in 2wd.. hahahaaha..
Bill. can I borrow your new Explorer?

Yo mudmachine, did you notice a big build-up of mud on back of the front fender flares (above footrest) I think its the rear tri-claws throwing mud forward onto the backs of the front flares. Just wondering, 'cause now you too have the 27" claws on a Polaris. I know what it feels like to be able to motor around in 2X4 without needing to switch to AWD. Pretty awesome!

Mudmachine how much power loss did you notice and how much speed did you loose, also in low range did your overall top speed increase. I took off my 26 " mudrunners today and put the stock tires back on and went from 40 mph back up to over 55 and was able to ride wheelies again. Do you have any power mods on your mag to help turn them tires ?

Jamie...
Havne't really noticed a power loss.. I already had 27" tires on it (Blackwater XT's) so it was just a tread design swap.. As for riding wheelies, I can still do that.. I have to get one knee up on the seat, rip the throttle, and pull up on the handlebars.. but a wheelie isn't impossible. I am trying NOT to do those anybore on land because of how hard the front end slams back to earth.(Gravity is a B1TCH sometimes!!) Riding wheelies in the water is fun though..
Turning is a little tougher with the Claws, but I'm going to experiment with differnt air pressures and toe settings to try and clear up some of that..
Now.. its on to PVT INTAKE snorkel, and air box snorkel...
I got my belt wet yesterday after beating my brother is a drag race thru a duck pond, I set mine back down and was pulling up out of the pond and he came from behind and dropped his front end right beside me into a 4 ft. deep hole, the wake washed into my PVT intake.... thats NEXT!!..

Jaime, keep in mind the taller tires will effect what the speedometer says. For instance, if you go 20mph by the speedometer with 25" tires, then put on 20" tires, it might say you are going 30mph when are still just going 20. Or maybe with 27" it says you are going 20, but you are going 25.
I am not sure how much change it will make, since they add so much weight, but that's just somthing to think about. I know a friend got up to 55mph on his Sportsman with 27" Vamps on it, according to the speedometer.
Robert, what's that in your picture? Is that the PVT snorkel?

Jaime.. Im not really comfortable about wringing this big monster out with the oversized tires.. I can tell ya that just today I cruised down the highway for a mile or so and the speedo said I was running about 45 and I still have lots of throttle left... Its really flaky at that speed on pavement, not to mention what it does to the tires...
Adam... Yeah. thats my PVT exhaust snorkel... but I need to take another picture, I snorkeled the PVT INTAKE today... I still have to do the airbox, and the front differential and carburetor vent and Ill be ALL done!!
