Aluminum, are they worth it?

My 500x has chrome wheels on it from the factory and I now face a problem.I bent the lip on the right front wheel(can easily happen)and the chrome cracked causing rust(ugly),now I can get a new one for about $130 plus tax.On the other side of the coin though I can get 4 aluminum ITP C series wheels delivered to my door for $535.My question is will the aluminum wheels stand very much abuse or should I just leave my chrome one's on and let the other three match the first one?The wheel is bent only on the outside lip,it does not cause any handling problems. You know how it goes the more careful you try to be the more stuff will happen. ---------- 02 500Ho X

I hope those C-series rims have tires on them, because if there not, that is way to much money for them. I got 4 ITP Magnum Aluminum wheels with 26" Mud Bugs delivered for $600.
Woops, after I wrote this I saw your from Canada. Wrong MONEY.

GE4x4, Sorry about the currency,I was going to put Canadian down but I never gave it another thought. So how are the aluminum wheels? tough or are they just for a show and shine?

Definetly go for the aluminum. I got four douglas wheels for $200US and they have held up great. I ride woods and MX, have had them for about 8 months and haven't dented them yet. Make sure you get the .190. They also weigh about 4-5lbs less per wheel (Thats around 20lbs lighter). You can also get different offsets to make your machine wider if you want.

hughes i was just wondering if your rims are the rolled edge?? my cousin has a set on his 400ex and they seem very hard to dent the edges unlike the steel rims i have on my scrambler.
thank you

yeah they are rolled edge. If you do get aluminum make sure you keep an eye on the studs. You can't use the lug nuts that came on your stock machine (you can but they might not stay tight). You really should get some flanged nuts to hold them tight. After you put them on watch for black streaks coming from around the studs. This is aluminum the aluminum wearing because the wheels aren't tight and the holes in the wheels will become eggshaped and basically useless so keep an eye on it. I don't know about the ITP wheels but the Douglas wheels are really shiny and look excellent. You can check out some photos at

Hello Bodean,
My son's 500 came with those crappy stock Polaris rims. Sure enough, they got dinged up pretty good. I found a guy on Ebay selling ITP C series rims. They are excellent. Look great and handle the rocks in the mountains of Tennessee real well. I recommend them. If I were you, I would do a search on Ebay for ITP C Series. Find someone selling them, and see if they have any to fit your 500. If I remember right, I paid around 275.00 for mine. That included shipping, I believe. They go real well with the Rawhides.
Hope this helps
