Default Breakin' in P650 !

Any tips on "do's" and "don't" during the break-in period? How about first maintenance? Any tips for self doers?

Having done my research, I decided to buy a '03 red P650. I agonised many days comparing Grizzly, Rubicon, Vinson, Kodiak 450, Foreman ES and Sportsman 500 HO.

I was in the market for a quad to do 50% utility work (pulling tree stumps and logs etc.) and 50% trail riding.

The clincher for P650 was:
a) Innovative V-twin
b) Sealed multidisk rear brakes and double piston front breakes.
c) Low center of gravity and unique gas tank.
d) Power, towing capacity and performance.
e) Kaw exclusive diff. lock lever.
f) 2x4 and 4x4 selector switch.

Also added 4 yrs transferable warranty for $500.

Taking delivery next Friday (can't wait).

First of all let me say congrats on your decision to by a prarie you wont be sorry.

Since your new to this website let me tell you a web adress that will help answer a lot of your questions, The adress is Atv.dnsalias.com you will learn a lot of useful info here, i know i have.
Oh by the way if you plan on working on your machine get a service manual from the dealer they are about $50.00

As for your question about the first service,

It needs to be taken to a kawi dealer the first time or it will void your 6 month warrenty.
The first service is due at 60miles or 10 hrs. (Thats what it says in my service man. for a 03 650 prarie)
Don't take it above half throttle for long periods of time.(Just speed up to above half throttle then slow down to below half)
this will help seat your rings properly. You will most likely want a black driven clutch spring, (helps out with belt wear)
i am going to have mine put in at it's first service. Go to erlandsonperformance.com to get a (black spring) ($36.00)
Hope this helps you out a little

I agree with everything 03650 said except the waranty voiding part.

If Kawi made you take it to the dealer for the first service, they'd have to do it for free or they would have no legal recourse to void anything.

It really amazes me how many people don't take the time to consult the Kawasaki website to get real factual answers. Andy~G you are correct, sir.

You can do all the maintenance yourself and it will not void the warranty. I have saved you the time of looking up the information yourself on the Kawasaki website. Click the link below and I believe all your questions will be answered.
