Default Finally found the limit on my Rincon

this is my first atv and it has totally exceeded what I ever thought I could do on one. I finally got it stuck in some black mud in a marsh and had to be pulled out by a couple of other guys with quads that didn't venture into the muck as far as I did. I did get a scare later in the day however when I was crossing a creek for the 3rd time and the current pushed me a little bit and I went into a deep hole. Basically my headlights, handlebars and part of my seat were visible but I was drowning the rest of it. It cut off and I couldn't get it started back with the pipe being under the water because it kept just shutting off on me. Finally got a few dudes to give me a pull and they got me up on the bank but for 30 minutes or so it sputtered and choked and ran really crappy with no power at all. They towed me about a quarter mile and then I was finally able to rev it up and then I just raced it around for a while with water flying out of the tail pipe. Question for ya'll: Do I need to change the oil and stuff now? It is running fine now and I was on it another hour or 2 after that and didn't have any problems. I wanted to hear from someone that has drowned one before on the best course of action to make sure I keep it maintained properly. thanks for any help.

I'd check the oil and see if it's milky.. if it is.. then change it, because it has water in it

you're lucky... usually when a pipe goes under water and the engine cuts off..... you have to take the pipe off to get all the water out of the bends or it acts like a restriction, and you won't have full power

We don't have mud and swamps out here in the desert. And after reading this, that makes me real happy!!

ramblinman,

Make sure you check your air filter, if it has absobed any water you should replace it. And like the other guys said just for the heck of it check your oil.

Don't forget to check your front and rear gear cases too for milky colored fluid, if it is change it. It wouldn't hurt to spray some lube on your cables too, (throttle and choke). You might wanna check your front drums too.

I will most likely start to smoke and burn oil and you will have to replace the rings cause you just toasted them while it spit and spurted for 30 minutes or more and then road it for like 2 hrs.

That stuff happens though when your having fun.

I wish I had a picture of mine in the mud hole. 20 Miles on it and got in a mud hole that I was almost certain not to gett out the moment i got in. It was thick, black, mud. No water on the surface, just the thick stuff. I was tires deep at once an immobile about twenty five feet from th other side. My friend, who also has a Rincon went around and tried to pull me. He pulled me four feet or so. The bike went down in a rut on the left side. Headlights were now buried, the tank half buried, the seat half buried and the rear rack half buried. I was kneeling on the right rear corner of the bike, exhaust under the mudd also, and did not let go of the throttle. After 20 minutes of winching with a 1500 lb winch I was out and had a flat tire. First time with the new bike and had to pick it up with a trailer. I think i have some pic's after it was out of the mud. I'll have to check.
