Help choosen a New ATv thinking about a Scrambler 500 4X4
#1
I have been wanting to buy a four wheeler for the past year but could this past summer becuase i recked my car and had to fix it but have plans to buy one this summer. I have been really thinking about the New Scrambler 4X4 500 2003. My friend has a Yahm. Wolverine which i like, but i want one that is faster and better for trials. I am 6'2 and about 200lbs and doing some jumping but very little. I mainly go trial riding and go through mud and water. I have been looking around tring to ask questions to find out what i can before i buy one to make sure i made the right choice. I hear a lot bad about Polairs, but it seems most isnt' ture. I wonder if about of you guys had other choices good for me?? or if the Scrambler is a good choice?? and one more thing if i got a 4X2 would i be able to get through mud easly. Thanks

Have you ever riden much?
Have you ever used a cluch?
Do you prefer a cluch or an automatic or an automatic cluch?
What do you plan on doing with it?
Do you plan on doing any mods to it?
How is your riding style? Aggresive, average, mild, ect.
Do you want a sport or a utility?
How much do you want to spend?
Is any one else going to ride it? How much have they riden?
What size do you want to stay in? 300cc, 400cc, 500cc, 600cc
Are you planing on climing hills?
Do you want 4x4 or 2x4?
Thier are allot of quads out there, the first thing you need to do is ask yourself some basic questions about what you want.
The Scrambler is a good quad and it was my first choice too, but after laerning as much as I could I realized it would not even be close to what I wanted. I am way to aggressive and its not an aggressive machine.
Everone start out thinking that they are just going to ride it but eventualy everone tests the limit of the machine and thier riding abilitys.
Buy a quad that will always be way to fast for you then you will never be board.

i have riden only some on my friends four wheeler
no i haven't used a cluch at all
would rather have a automatic cluch
As i said Jumping some but mainly trails and mud
Some mod later on
Average but hope to move to aggresive as i get more use to it
sport
not to much more then 6,000
no one other then my friend who has been riding for a while
atless a 400cc
yeah i will be climing hills....
rather have a 4X4 for the mud inless it is fairly easy to learn to get through mud with a 2X4

If you are going to spend that much than I would sugest the Prairie 650! You should go to the Kawasaki forium and listen to what they have to say about it. This thing is awsome. It can beat most of the big boar sport machines.
Also in a couple of months the V-Force 700 comes out and this will dominate everything on the track and trail. Its also fully automatic.
If you want to buy the Scrambler than make sure you buy the 2003 and not the 2002. They made some improvements on it that it needed bad! Also you will need to change the tires soon because they are junk and dont work at all. It doesnt realy have that much power because it is the same motor thats in the Sportsman 500H.O. and probably wont beat the Wolverine so after its broke in, call Hot Seat Performance and get a new cluch and new muffler and a power kit and then it will run ok. The Scrambler is real heavy and I ride in the same conditions as you and I dont have 4x4 and I dont get stuck. You realy dont need it but I guess its nice to have. The Polaris is a utility thats kind of sporty, the Prairie is a full on sport that looks like a utility. Its real easy to surpass the Scrambler, I get on one now and its a dog.
I would test drive, not just look at the:
V-Force 700
Prairie 650
Kodiak 450
Lakota Sport
Suzuki Z-400
Honda 400ex
Yamaha Warrior 350
Yamaha Raptor 660r
Polaris Predator 500...............then.......
Scrambler 500

The Scrambler is a great machine. I loved mine. It has plenty of speed and power. No it's not a Prairie 650. But it is an excellent do everything pretty good quad. I moved up to a Predator. It is amazing. I absolutely love riding it. I wanted an automatic too, but you really don't even notice the shifting after awhile. Spend your hard earned American dollars on an good ole American machine. You won't regret it.

Check out the 500 Srammy you will like it but I would look for a 2001 or 02 and save some cash for a clutch kit and a pipe.
