SP600 oil filter #?
#1
I asked a few weeks ago and nobody replied, so I'll ask again. Anyone found a cross reference # for the Polaris oil filter on a 03 SP600? I've checked with a few auto places, and they can't look one up. At about $12 a pop, I don't want to be going back to the dealer for too many more.
I know $12 every few months isn't much, but I change my oil and filter much more frequently than required.

I haven't seen an exact replacement for the twin motor oil filter yet. The only real difference between that one and the one the fits on a 500 is that the 600/700 filter has a bypass feature built in. When (or if) the filter becomes plugged it's designed to still flow oil. It just won't be filtering any oil. Which is obviously bad but at least the motor won't burn down right away. Take your Polaris filter to an auto parts store and snoop around, open some filter boxes, you'll probably find something that'll be the same. Also, give it a year...the filter prices will come down as more twins are sold.

I used the Napa filter on my 700, and it works great. It's less than half the price of the Polaris filter, too!

for what it is worth,
the Napa filters are made by wix, and are very good in my opinion, I run a NAPA gold on my v4 yamaha street bike, and am very pleased with it. carquest filters may also be made by wix, as the parts # are the same, or similar. bear in mind that I run synth oil in my quad & street bikes and is in there a little longer than 3 months at a time, or 3K miles, but that is my preference. a friend of mine has a v4 that has 115K on it, and the clutch plates were at the lower end of the specs.. fitment of the filter should be similar to yamaha street bikes, or mazda 1.8L miata, just see if the stock filter has a recess in it where the threads are, or a large nut on the stem that the filter screws to. if this is the case, you need a recessed filter, or it will leak around the sealing area..
