FIRST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN OLD SET OF PLUGS IN YOUR MACHINE.....NOT FOULED BUT A LITTLE CARBONED UP WILL BE FINE.....NEXT REMOVE YOUR AIRCLEANER AND WASH IT OUT COMPLETELY. DO NOT REOIL IT AT THIS POINT. NEXT PUT ON YOUR MODS....PIPES ,REEDS, CARBS, ETC.......
REMOVE THE SNORKEL FROM YOUR LID......
WITH THE AIR CLEANER NOT OILED AND THE SNORKEL OFF THIS WILL BE THE LEANEST YOUR MACHINE CAN EVER GET AFTER IT IS JETTED PROPERLY...
NOW PUT IN A LARGE JET...MAKE IT LARGE ENOUGH THAT YOU KNOW IT WILL NOT CLEAN OUT ON TOP END AT FULL THROTTLE....NOW START DROPPING DOWN IN 5 INCRIMENTS....IF YOU HAD A 280 GO DOWN TO A 275...AND SO ON....KEEP GOING DOWN UNTIL IT JUST STARTS TO CLEAN OUT AND GO LIKE A RAPED APE.....
GET ENGINE GOOD AND WARM...NOW MAKE SURE IT KEEPS ON CLEANING OUT ON TOP END.....NOW YOUR TOPEND JETTING IS BASICALLY DONE....
NOW WE NEED TO DO YOUR MIDRANGE.....ON A BANSHEE GET IN ABOUT 3rd OR 4th GEAR AND HOLD THROTTLE ABOUT 1/4 TO 1/2 THROTTLE.....HOLD IT THERE FOR ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS.....IF YOUR HERE A CYLINDER DROP OUT THEN ITS LEAN....IF IT STAYS BLUBBERY BUT CLEANS OUT INSTANTLY WHEN YOU HAMMER FULL THROTTLE THEN MIDRANGE IS GOOD....IF IT TAKES A COUPLE OF SECONDS TO CLEAN OUT AND GO THEN IT IS RICH.....
IN THIS CASE, IF A CYLINDER DROPS OUT, THEN YOU NEED TO LOWER YOUR CLIP....RAISE YOUR NEEDLE IN OTHER WORDS....IF IT IS BLUBBERY AND DOESNT CLEAN OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN YOU NEED TO RAISE THE CLIP....LOWER YOUR NEEDLE IN OTHER WORDS......
IF IT CLEANS OUT INSTANTLY AND GOES HARD THEN YOUR MIDRANGE IS GOOD.....IT IS SET AT THIS TIME....
FOR BOTTOM OR IDLE LET IT SET THERE FOR A FEW SECONDS AT IDLE....REV A FEW TIMES....IF IT IS A LITTLE HESITANT THEN ITS LEAN...TURN YOUR AIRSCREWS IN....GO IN 1/2 TURN INCRIMENTS......
YOUR IDLE WILL ACTUALLY DROP SLIGHTLY THIS IS NORMAL.....BUT OFF OF IDLE AND IT IS A LITTLE BLUBBERY ITS A LITTLE RICH....TURN YOUR AIRSCREW OUT....AGAIN 1/2 TURN INCRIMINTS......
NOW TAKE YOUR MACHINE OUT AND CK ALL OF THESE AGAIN .....NOW GO OUT AND RIDE FOR ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES....NOT AT FULL THROTTLE ALL THE TIME....JUST SHORT HARD BURSTS.....GET IN AN OPEN AREA. START IN FIRST AND GO THROUGH AS MANY GEARS AS YOU CAN PULLING HARD...DO THIS AS FAST AS YOU CAN IN THE LITTLEST AMOUNT OF TIME....PULL IN CLUTCH LEVER AND KILL MACHINE AT THE SAME TIME....
REMOVE PLUGS....THE OUTER RING AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE PLUG SHOULD BE DRY TO EVER SO LIGHTLY WET....THE PORCELAIN AREA SHOULD BE LIGHT TAN TO LIGHT BROWN......THIS IS ALMOST PERFECT IF IT LOOKS LIKE THIS.....NOW GO BACK AND OIL YOUR FILTER.......GO BACK OUT AND RIDE IT....MAKE SURE IT RUNS THE WAY YOU WANT....NOW CK YOUR PLUG AGAIN...THE OUTER RING SHOULB BE WET AND THE MIDRANGE WHICH IS THE PORCELAIN AREA SHOULD BE BROWN........RUN WITHOUT THE SNORKEL IF YOU CAN.....BUT IN THE WINTER TIME PUT THE SNORKEL BACK ON.....THIS SHOULD RICHEN IT UP ENOUGH THAT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN IN THE COLD TEMPS WITH NO PROBLEMS....BUT KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR PLUG....YOUR PLUG TELLS YOU THE ENTIRE STORY OF WHAT YOUR ENGINE IS DOING.........IF YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY LIKE I TELL YOU THEN I GURANTEE YOU THAT YOU WILL NOT BURN YOUR ENGINE UP DUE TO IMPROPER JETTING......BUT MAKE SURE ALL OTHER MODS OR COMPONENTS YOU INSTALL ARE ON CORRECTLY.....ANY AIR LEAKS ON A 2-STROKE WILL SHORTEN THE LIFE OF THEN ENGINE VERY FAST....SMALL AIR LEAKS CAN BE DETECTED BY AN ENGINE NOT COMING DOWN TO AN IDLE IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU THINK THIS IS HAPPENING AT ALL ON YOUR MACHINE THEN SHUT IT DOWN...CK YOUR PLUGS.....THEY SHOULD LOOK LIKE I DESCRIBED....IF NOT FIND OUT WHY!!!!!! DONT TRY TO REJET TO COMPENSATE.....THERE IS A PROBLEM....GURANTEED....

Excellent information Tim! This is definitely the most overlooked fact of tuning by most. This might also help the guys that often wonder why the other guy's bike might run a little better. Bubba

Is this standard jetting for most two strokes??? I have an 86 lt250r that i just picked up and i think the jetting is off cause the kid said it ran rich in warmer weather. I believe its completely stock other than an after market silencer

Good job, please post 4 stoke jetting. I can't seem to clear the topend on my wifes atc 125m.

trial & error, pipe manufacture gets you close but when you start modding the air box it takes time to get it right on. i'm pretty close but waiting on warmer weather to go at it again, temp. changes effect jetting, do most of my riding when warm. up one on the pilots should get it. Always looking for hints or advise. thanks

IN 4 STORKE JETTING IS NOT NEARLY EFFECTED IN AS A 2 STROKE...YOUR RAPTOR , WHEN IT IS CLOSE, WILL ONLY NEED MINOR FUEL SCREW ADJUSTMENT WHEN WARMER WEATHER COMES ABOUT...
