How do I disable my accl pump?
#1
I just got a perfect condition HSR42 used carb. But it has the pump enabled. I think its flooding out the DS. How do I disable the pump and get back to my straight jetting?? I am runing a 140 and 95 needel. I will probably go back to 97 on the needel. I just put it rich to test it...

I was told to completely remove it and then use a little silicone to seal-up the hole.

i've been looking at going to the 45, but with all the mixed reviews i was curious, so i went by a harley shop and ask if they would be able to help with the adjustment, and that got the guy excited maybe just the person but it might be worth a try, seems every town has a harley dealer.and since it is there carb of choice, seemed like a good place to ask.

I run the HSR Mikuni on both Harleys and my DS. I don't think there is a better carb, not according to the flow charts anyway. Now, if I can just get a 42HSR (TM, same thing) on my Predator, I'd really be a happy camper. Putt

The accelerator pump is also adjustable - you can increase or decrease the fuel it squirts. have you tried just adjusting it down a bit? I've got a 45 on the way, haven't worked on the accelerator pump adjusting yet, so I don't have any hard facts yet, but I do know its adjustbale.
I think ideally the pump would be disabled to tune the main jet first, then needle, then pilot, then idle mixture screw, and finally engage the pump again and adjust it to smooth out any stutter when hammering off idle. This seems logical, to avoid mistaking needle position for accelerator pump mal-adjustment.

Hey MudStud,
Forcefed is right just take out the rod that actuates it put a little dap of silicone on the boot hole it came out of and that's it. To remove the rod just use a punch to remove the pin holding the linkage on, above the rod.

Hey Mud, you may want to unhook the spring from the pump and test it that way before you remove it, incase you find you can't get it dialed in without the pump.then after you get it dialed in, then take the rod out and fill the rod hole with silicone.
