Default Seem like a good deal for an LT500?

1989 SUZUKI LT500 QUADZILLA,
all new tires, new motor, top & bottom, many other extras, $1900. (***) ***-****. Torrington

that was in the bargain news a local paper in connecticut. I have to go see it but it sounds pretty cheap. I am going to see it this weekend I think. I don't know a lot about the details of the Zilla. Is there certain years to be weary of? are the're common defects I should look for in this model. anything else I should keep an eye out for? any advice from somebody who knows more about them than I do. I remember reading there were a few flakey years for the LTs somewhere. all I know is the're F'in fast

The Lt 500 is a great bike to own. The 1989 is fine, the the 1987 have one less head bolt, but that is workable to. Take a look at the rear end. Have some one lift up on the rear grab bar and check for worn axle bearing and swing arm bearings. Ask if there has been any motor work done, there is a main bearing problem that might need brass inserts to fix the factory specs. Then just take alook at all the things a 14 yr old bike would have had wore out during its lifetime of beating Banshees! If you like the Quad and trust the seller then welcome to the club!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright here is the deal. I went there today, saw the zilla, and rode it. It has purple plastics and a procircut pipe. It started fine although he left the choke on and flooded it after it was idling. It had to then be pop-started down a hill. I have had 2-stroke dirtbikes and when they flood, it is a pain so it seemed fine. He said he got it at an ATV swap 3 years ago. less than a year ago he was riding it when the water pump went and the top end froze. He had the top end rebuilt but there was a bearing problem so he then had the entire top and bottom rebuilt. So he said basically the entire engine was new.

it is now bored .30 over. The guy said he had receets and it it was around 800 bucks for it all. He is in his early 30s and has an excavation company with his two brothers and father. they have a few quads and snomobiles and seem to me as decent honest people. they didn't try to hide anything. He said other than the engine and water pump and tires he hasn't done anything on it. BIG PLUS... it has brand new Holeshots on the front and Tri-claws on the back wheels. They are like new he said he did the tires and engine at the same time and it only has like 10 hours on the new engine.

I rode it in there long driveway and couldn't get out of first or second cause of the snow on the ground. it was warmed up for only a minute or two and when I hit the gas it gave smoothe power. when it punched it, not even more than 3/4 throttle it roared. Man it was two stroke power like I haven't felt before. It had a lot more low end for an engine that still has an agressive powerband. The guy said he hasn't ever topped it out. the fastest he has had it is mide 5th gear in a snow storm. The only people who rode it were him and his brothers. He is selling it because he is building a house and is short on money. It is listed in the bargain pages for $1900. I think it is a pretty good deal but I was interested in what you all think.

Oops, forgot to add a little more detail on the quad. The rear swingarm is definatly new. the frame is in good condition and it doesn't look like it has been in an accient before. it has a DG front bumper and the axel looks like it is original. It is rusted in the open part but there wasn't any squeeling or such from the bearings in the back. I forgot to look and see if it had a zerk drilled unlike the original. The engine had normal scratching as would be expected for an 89 ATV. nothing looked dented or patched and the suspention seemed in good cond. the front was a bit soft but nothing creeked. in all actuality my 2001 wolverine creaks more than it did. The plastics were in decent cond. they were purple and not original. The bars were original and pretty good. It had nerf bars and original pegs. There is a rip in the middle of the seat but it was from the guy putting his knee on it when he was starting it. it was in the right place for a knee. I loved the way it felt when you sat on it. It is a big boy but I felt much more comfortable then sitting on a banshee. When you sit on a banshee, me being 6ft even, like your sitting on a bit of a toy. the seat is high up and there isn't a lot for your legs to grip to stay on that bad boy if you stopped quickly. I loved the feel of the Zilla. I want to know if you all think it is a good deal because I tell ya i'm in love, WITH THE ZILLA. I have been partal to yamaha in the past but I tell ya it is a beautiful machine. I was thinking of offering 1200 in cash and working my way up. it was listed for $1900. I think I mentioned almost everything if you have any other questions about it. I am real excited and don't want this to get away from me so please let me hear what you have to say.

GO ZILLA

Youve got to be kidding me. Your going to offer 1200?

Why dont you just tell him you would like him to give it to you in good faith?
Dont know what its like in those parts, but here the absolute minimum a decent Zilla sells for is like $2900.
(2900 is probably rough shape) Im would ask $3900 for mine, and it would sell too. (this is the San Diego area, though.... glamis is a hop skip away)

1900 is an absolute steal, and I dont see how you dont know that already.

I had a feeling it was a steal. Yea i'll offer 1200 or 1400. Haven't you ever learned to bargain. If i lowball him first I have a better chance of getting it for less than 1900. if he stands firm then I'll just pay the 1900. why not see if I can get it cheaper before I throw down the dough, ya know. and in these parts although there are a lot of riders there aren't nearly as many people who trick out full sport quads. not like out where dunes are. people ride trails, woods, and fields around here. They have a lot of snomobiles and they have an 80s warrior and a new articat for plowing. I don't think they know a whole lot about specifically the sport 2-stroke enviornment. They could definatly get a lot more for it. IMO. But hey thats better for me. Now all I have to do it convince the parents it's worth me spending my money on. I was planning on getting it for a school project I am still applying for where I take a bike apart and put it back together but now this popped out and I don't want to loose this chance either way. I have 5 grand in my account so I think I oughta get it. If i don't want it I could sell it for more than that anyways over e-bay and such. as long as I keep it in good running condition, or even fix up it's look a little bit for a few hundred, I can definatly sell it for more than I bought it for. wouldn't you agree?

I have another question while I am at it. Right now it is running tr-claws on the back and holeshots on the front. how do you think those tires will run on the back. As far as I knew they were muddin tires but I don't plan to mud with this bad boy. It will still have plenty of power to break the ground when I punch it I would imagine. Anybody else run similar tires on a Zilla? just curious. the Holeshots should be good on the front for sure. Those Tr-Claws look bretty beastly on the zilla I like the way it looks, and those aren't cheep tires the tires and the engine rebuild on the bike had to cost him near 1100 or 1200 bucks and he is selling the whole ATV with em for 1900. This afternoon I'm gonna call him and make an offer. I'll offer $1300 or 1400 in cash. If he needs the money I'd imagine he wants cash not a check
