I live some 14 hrs from sand Howerver I am planing on making a trip to OK and ride.. I want a set of GOOD but CHEAP sand tires/rims. I was thinking of the roosters??
As a newbie to sand should I get straights or v's? Keep in mind its probably once or twice per year?..
Are the GBC paddle masters any good? I like the roosters as they are a MAXXIS tire
Should I get the .125, .160 or .190 for rims?? I was thinking of .160 for cost. I run the .190 on the trail..

14 hours is a long *** drive! Thats about how far I am from the dunes in OK...maybe we could meet up there someday. As far as tires go, I won't be spending money on tires I'll use once a year at most....guess I'll just have to deal with knobbies or borrow some paddles. I don't know anyone with paddles though...

maybe you should just switch tires on the rims you have. rocky mountain has cheap sand tires, they have kenda paddles forfrom 35 to 45 each. go with the 190 rims so if you don't make it back to the sand you can put dirt tires on them.

Don't bother buying the cheap paddles, you'll do better with dirt tires. Cheap paddles will be the worst investment you'll ever make, period. I bought Kenda Dune Trakkers for my DS and they were beyond horrible. The only way I could ge the ATV moving without high centering was to put it in gear, and run next to it, then jump on once it got some speed. I had to dig it out of the sand a dozen times, in just one day.
The important thing to worry about with 'less expensive' (there is a big difference in quality between less expensive and cheap) is the height of the tire. You NEED 20 inches of height as measured by a ruler or measuring tape. Kenda Dune Trakkers are labeled 20x12x9. Physically they are something like 17x10x9. 17" is not enough height for a DS650 (or most any adult sized ATV for that matter.) If the roosters are a TRUE 20" tall, you'll be fine with them, however be sure to measure them yourself, otherwise some bonehead is gonna read the side of the tire and tell you they are 20". I don't know how much they cost or if they are in your budget but the Sand Skate II is a nice tire.
If you aren't going to be doing a ton of jumping, the .125's are fine. I do a little jumping and the .125's are okay.
Your best bet for 'cheap' is to look on eBay or a local classifieds section (maybe even atvconnection, or markynark's or extreme garage) and see if someone is going to sell you some of the GOOD paddles, for the CHEAP price. I got a full set of good paddles (fronts & rears) for $200 with rims from a very nice guy on the forums.

Ok,
SO for say 150 - 200 what tires should I buy?? I currently have 22 razrs but they SUCK in soft snow.. I sit and dig farmer rows in the yard just would not be much fun in sand. SO with that said, what should I spend my money on???

If you can find a decent paddle with a true 20" profile of the tire, you'll be fine. How much are the roosters?
On a recent trip to Dumont Sand Dunes Raptor03 had some half worn out ITP Holeshot's on his ATV & he rode extremely well on the sand, so don't count your Razr's out so quick, I've heard and seen people with that style of tire do really well on sand.
For $150-200 I've seen almost brand new sets of rear tires for the DS get sold on eBay, rims and paddles. Everyone on the forums seems to REALLY like Scat Trak, Rocky Mountain ATV has a deal for the DS650 2 Scat Trak 20x10x10s with two .160 rims for $226. Unfortunatly, they aren't in stock. They also have the Sand Skate II 20x11x10 on douglas .160 rims for 229. I have also heard a lot of people REALLY happy with a place called Jim's Sand Tires, it's located somewhere in the central USA, not sure any more info - do a search for the contact info.
