xpedition 425 looking great
#1
Last weekend, I went up north to clean up and shine my polaris xpedition 425cc like I said I would. It was filthy! Now its shinny. There are a few scratches in the plastics that only show up when its really clean. I also bolted on the rear bumper I bought. Not to shabby. I did order the mud tires and aluminum rims, I have been dreaming about. I bought a set of 26 inch mud bugs and a set of itp magnum billet aluminum rims. They are on the way. The rims are suposed to be able to handle the atv's weight. Heck it will be a little lighter now. I can hardly wait. If the front tires
are almost touching the plastics or rubbing when turning. I might buy heavy duty springs for the front to make the front stiffer. I dont really want to buy a lift kit yet or maybe never? Well, thats it. polaris xpedition 425 cc 5 speed.

Im in colorado this week in a class. Last night I called my dad up north. He said that not only did my new tires and rims come in but him and our friend already put them on my atv. They dont really understand why allot of us want to put this or that on there atv. My dad said that he thought I will get stuck right away because the mudbugs tred will dig down to china. He said the tires are
wider then my stock tires and that I will get real muddy now as my tires will throw mud all over and all over me. I told him, those are the tires I ordered alright! I will be back friday night and drive up north and try out my machine this weekend....

rangerchet,
Let me know how you like your new tires. After riding with mudmachine this weekend and getting a taste of real mud, Im interested in getting some mud tires for mine.

Ok, my fellow xpedition 425 owners, and maybe future xpedition owners?. I got back from colorado and went up north. to test ride my atv. My dad and our friend put my tires on already because my dad wants my stock tires. All I can say is HOLLY COW!!! The 26 inch mudbugs and itp magnum
billet aluminum wheels looks really really good on
the xpedition. The tires stick out and I think I will check into wider mud guards. I looked like a mud pit when I got done. I drove it through one mud hole where the mud came up to the top of the storage rack. It actually acted like it was stuck for about 10 seconds. Then it just grabed and drove out. The mud in that hole was dark think hard mud. The kind thats hard to get through because its so heavy. Other deep mud holes, those tires almost never slip and the xpedition drives right through with no hesitation. Those tires are wonderfull. I was impressed. Unexpected good thing. The xpedition turns much easier now and better. I can turn sharper now. Those tires just grab and go where you want. Bad point. I dont have
more then 3 hours on those new tires so I have to say that I am still a little scared of them. I find that I dare not go over 40 miles per hour now. Even though mud bugs are listed as a tire that does well on hard pack. I have found that to be true up to about 35 miles per hour. After that the atv shakes and wobbles due to the agressive lugs. At slower speeds it does go a-ok on hard pack dirt logging roads. I tried to go fast on a dirt road. When I got it to 40, I got scared and slowed down. Maybe I just need to get used to them????? Im not a speed demon in the first place. those tires grab and grab hard thats there strong point. I am wondering if the atv has trouble going into 4 wheel drive because the rear wheels hardly slip at all? Remember how polaris 4 x4 operates, when the rear tires slip then the front wheels engage. What if the rear tires dont slip. there was a few times when I did not know if my atv went into 4 wheel drive or not. To prove what im wondering, I noticed a couple of times when I stoped in a mud hole as part of my testing.
It takes more gas or more power to get going. I think its because it takes longer for the atv to realize it needs the front wheels to engage to help get moving. 4 wheel drive would engage sooner with the stock tires as they slipped easily. I do like them though. You cannot drive on
your yard. You will chew up the grass. I tried every thing I could think of and in the deepest mud I could find. Several mud holes I just went through in 2 wheel drive. The back tires are that much better now. You If you are thinking about a set of super mud tires. I would first decide if that is what you really want. Like I say, Your not
going to drive 50 mph. with them. They chew up every thing they drive over. I did notice that In the lower speeds with the lower gears. Like going from 2nd. to 3rd. and 3rd. to 4th. The xpedition drove faster and excellerated faster then before. I think that means that If I dared go that fast the xpedition might exceed the 57 mph., I had it up to before putting on these tires. The clearance
under neath was improved. The tires only bounce on the plastics occasionally. Not used to it yet so when it happens, I am startled for a couple of seconds. I might try heavy duty springs in the front? Its not bad though and no harm is done. Turning is no trouble at all. Like I said earlier.
Steering has improved by "A LOT"!. I would say that the xpedition can go through much more then before with these tires. The aluminum rims held up fine. I bounced off things once in a while. The rims did hold up and look great. So in closing, only 3 minor concerns that may turn out to be nothing or easily solved or not really a problem.
1. tires rub on the plastics occasionally.
2. I think its harder for the front tires to
engage because the rear tires do not slip.
3. You cannot drive the atv to its top speed.

rangerchet,
thanks for the low down on those tires. This past weekend I saw an Xped with 27 super swampers...no lift...and they pretty much said the same thing. The tires will rub occasionally and you dont want to go too fast. If I get some mud tires it will be for special occasion use only. I plan to keep my stock tires because around here a mud tire is overkill, unless of course you want to try to cross the lake!
