Default how hard will it be to make a 500r (CR500 engine in a 250r frame)

Hey, I'm looking into the idea of getting myself a rolling frame and a CR500 engine and making them into one. How hard will it be getting the engine mounted in there. I know there are some people who have done it? how was it. Also, will the gearing and such be messed up because of the different tires etc. Will it hold up to A Zilla? THanks

Evan

Don't do it.
The CR500 will shake, rattle, and cause the frame to crack regardless of how much padding you put into the mounts. Its just a matter of time. The CR500 has no counterbalancer.

Don't get me wrong. That would be a SCREEMINGLY FAST motor to put into the frame, but it will cost WAY more to do it that way then to just get a built esr (or other brand) big bore motor.

I researched this in depth a few years ago as I ride only in the sand (which takes up a HUGE amount of horsepower). Everything I found out was basically what I told you.

Do yourself a favor, and go another route.
Of course if you just have about 5,000-10,000 to throw away, and like never ending projects....... then go for it!

Oh, and not to start any flames, but the Zilla 500's weren't as fast as many people believe.

I raced a couple of them when I had my 330R (intact), and beat both of them pretty badly.
The guys riding the zillas were better riders than me, and weighed about 50 lbs less than me (no lie).

So I would recommend going with a big bore by ESR, or some other reputable motor builder and have it ported.

i have 2 videos of me DESTROYING an LT500. The kid weighed a buck 5 at most. I raced a meth LT500 too, and it was also a joke. The CR will rattle you stupid. Ive owned one personally and flat tracked it. Its not worth it.

I have talked to 2 people that have them.. I have their names if you dont believe me. They said they dont shake, that is just a rumor. They are a huge pain, and wallet drain. There is a lot of fab work involved, and lots of custom stuff has to be made. It would be easier to convert a CR 500 into a 3 wheeler.

As for fast... there is nothing faster, except crankenstien snowmobile motors that are 600-1000 cc.

Yeah since i owned a 500 in a 250r chassis and it shoke the fingers off my hands...but your right its just a rumor...i wouldnt know anything. Yes my chassis was set up right too, it had custom poly urethan motor mounts, bar clamps, lead shot in the bars and stem. But your right its just a rumor....yea you know what your talking about...BURP. I also think your being a little close minded about "As for fast... there is nothing faster, except crankenstien snowmobile motors that are 600-1000 cc." Obviously you havent seen the new contraptions people are designing. Your talking 80 horses IF that maybe 90 with a 580 big bore on methanol. Its not that hard to beat a honda with 90 horses. Especially with a banshee. I can get 90 horses out of a 350 banshee on methanol

CTATV: I'll make you one heck of a great deal on a 500R! Extended swingarm, custom pipe...

ONE BADASS QUAD!!! Takes a REALLY fast banshee to beat it... But it also takes at least one new motor mount bolt for every ride...(Snaps them like twigs) not to mention, half the other bolts that vibrate loose and get lost every ride. (Might be a few fillings vibrated loose too!)

Dude, they are FAST! but they aren't worth the headaches... Follow everyone else's advice, build a big bore based on the 250R bottom end (HEard good things about ESR)

Got any dyno curves on that 90 HP banshee DaBeechMan??? That would be great bragging rights!
It still boggles my mind that those little itty bitty pistons can make that dang much power..

I can show your graphs duneaddict, but they wouldnt be my own. I try to stay away from dyno's personally because people mislead them. Its obvious im going to have to get some graphs though because every seems to want one or they already have one. It suprises me too about those little banshee's. The honda cylinder is somewhat the same way. Never had a 250r stock cyl dynoed by i think we could get 70 horses out of one on meth. MAYBE. Thanks for stepping up and laying it to this guy that the 500's arent just "rumored" to have a vibration. Who built your pipe? Are you running a stock 500 in there? What arm/tire/carb you running?
