Default winch question

I need to buy a winch for the wifes new ride. I'm not madly in love with the Warn I have. Has anybody tried one of the Ramsey 3000# winches yet? If so, what do you like about it? I'm really starting to lean that way, not just because of price but I don't care for the Warn design.
If I can get away with it, I might put the Warn 2k on the wifes, and stick a new bigger one on my 700. I'm wondering if it's worth going up to a bigger winch, because the 2000# is enough to either pull me out of anything, or (just as likely) pull someone else in to me. Appreciate any input.

Default winch question

I've got a winch question as well ... My wife refused to be strapped to the front of my SP ... anyway ... Cabelas and BassPro both offer the SuperWinch ... the 2000# SuperWinch is $199 .. the Warn is $339 ... I'm not looking for industrial use here .... Are the SuperWinches or Ramsey's OK??????

In reviewing what I just wrote, I realized that I goofed. What I should have written was that I was leaning toward the Superwinch over the Warn. I do like the Ramsey but they are too pricey. I also looked at Cabelas, found the best prices there. (sorry Highlifter!)
I had a little Superwinch T1500 on the Trailboss, it was good for a little cheapie.

I can't imagine anyone not liking the new Warn 3.0 CI. I have had 4x4 trucks for years and been exposed to all kinds of winches, Warns are the best. The new 3.0 is the best one because the spool is in the center and it is sealed. Also I bought mine for $385. and it comes with the roller fairlead.

I didn't mean to sound like I was bashing the other brands, it's just I have had good luck with Warns for a lot of years. I'm sure the Superwinch or Ramsey winches will perform fine, but I really like some of the new Warn 3.0's features. I guess it is kind of pricey though.

i have to agree with V8s10.
i wouldn't trade my Warn for anything. i have the new style, a 2.5ci (2500lb). i really like that mini-remote fixed to the handlebar. the 2.5 has plenty of power to pull my 700. the 3.0 must be incredible!

i looked at the Ramsey before buying mine. the key-chain wireless remote just wouldn't work well for me. i plow a lot and Warn's mini-rocker allows me to keep both hands on the 'wheel' when i operate the winch. the Ramsey is a very nice winch though.

don't know anything about a Superwinch.

good luck,

Hey V8,
I know you mounted the warn 3.0 between the headlights with your custom mounting plate. I was wondering if you have any pictures you could post. I am planning on buying a 700 next month and want to put the 3.0 winch on it. I like the idea of the winch in the pocket. I have been pricing winches at atvpartsdepot and the 2.5 is $360.00 (Hawse fairlead, no remote) and the 3.0 is $385.00( roller fairlead remote). I would just prefer the larger winch and better accessories for the extra $25.00 bucks. I don't plan on putting a brushguard on my 700. I am wondering how far the winch will stick out if I have a custom plate made. I would like to get a look at yours.
Do you think it is an advantage to having the winch in the pocket compared to mounting it in front of the grill? When winching, is it better to be pulling from the center of the four wheeler or from the pocket ?
What has been your experience with winching from pocket compared to winching from the grill?

If I can borrow a digital camera, I'll try to post some pictures when I get a chance. I bought my 3.0 from atvpartsdepot, I thought it was the best deal since it comes with the roller fairlead for $385. The 3.0 is almost exactly the same size as the 2.5, just slightly larger in the center. I wanted mine mounted horizontally because I have the Polaris brushguard and actually used it to help support the mounting plate. I think you could probably mount it vertically in the bumper opening like the 2.5 but you would have to space it out about an inch or so. I don't want to mislead anyone, I have a shop and enjoy fabricating things you can't buy. I worked pretty hard and spent some time building this mount and also made the bracket for the solenoid and also made my own bracket for the handlebar rocker switch (I didn't like the little clamp that came with it). It took me a couple of days to complete the installation.
