Default disapointing raptor mods

i have recently installed a 11.1 piston and a stage 1 hot cam in my raptor. other mods include graydon full exhaust,k&n\prodesign filter, 12\41 spokets(soon tobe 42rear), no air box, stock carbs w\180\185mains and 30pilots. i didn't notice that much diferance in performance! my brother is running similair mods stock piston, stage 1 cam, 167\172 mains 27pilets full dmc exhaust, no air box etc.. the bike seems to perforem as we as mine, also abuddy of mine is riding a t\l preditor w\just a pipe and jet w\ the air box ON(didn't let him in on removeing th lid and a jet if needed) racing up olds last weekend i would have thought my bike had a clear advantage but it didnt. we all have about the same riding abilitys. no ridle reason or rime on who was the winner! i'm wondering if i just missed somthing somewhere or thats just the way it is. I CANT BELEIVE THAT PEDITOR CAN BE THAT FAST AGAINST A MODIFID RAPTOR! any ideas or suggestions?

Somthing is wrong with your quad. Did you install the cam yourself? Check the timing marks. Are yours mikuni jets? Your pilots and mains are to high imo. I have the 11;1 JE piston and Hotcam stage 1 cam. Full Alba exhuast 12/42 gearing, Dyno jet kit 150/155 mains, no lid K&N pro design filter.

Piped and jetted Raptors are at least 6 bike lengths back unless a 100lb kid is on it. Predators are about the same to a couple more lengths back on the same hill (OLDS) and others. I weigh in at about 255-60 lbs.

Keep in mind a Piped and jetted raptor with a 100lb kid that can ride and a Raptor with the mods we have and the rider weight of 260lbs will run close to the same up the hills. Weight to power makes a difference.

Yes, the dyno jet needles are for dyno jet jets only. Run either dyno jets and needles or mikuni jets and needles, do not mix and match.

You should be able to notice a problem right away if the marks are not aligned correctly. I've never aligned mine wrong to know for sure what it would do. As far as I understand it would not run right, power loss, even sputtering, hitting and missing type thing.

The mixed jets and needles are a definate problem though.

Did you degree the cam when you installed it? That could be something to check. And jetting may be off. You should be able to get 4 or 5 lengths on them.

David do you know why is it not a good idea to mix DJ and Mikuni? I don't understand why it would be a problem but I have'nt seen where anyone has done this.

The Dynojet needles have a different taper.

What Notu said.

Dynojet needles are tapered more sharply and the jets flow at a different rate than Mikuni. A 150 mikuni does not flow the same fuel as a 150 dyno jet, which one flows more I could not tell you.. Then throw in the equasion of a different needle taper and things just don't work right.

sparkless- you should be much faster than what you are describing with the mods you have.i have similar mods and the difference was not something you could miss so if you dont feel a very significant power increase its time to backtrack and check your install.i am 6'4" and 260 lbs and i can finally easily walk away from my wifes very fast 440 ex on my raptor where as before it was dead even wether we were on a flat or racing up a hill.when you get it right you will be very pleased with the results .good luck
