I'm the proud owner of a Predator. I picked it up yesterday, what a machine!! Well I guess my first question is what would other Predator owners recommend I do to the stock bike? I'm not really interested in a pipe, I don't need to draw any un-nessary attention where I'll be riding people get pissed at the noise, but should I mod the air box? What about the bad azz suspension, mine seems a little stiff, has anyone changed the factory settings? How is the stock sprocket setup, does it need a tooth here or there? Thanks in advance. This weekend will be my forst opportunity to ride it somewhere that it can actually be riden. But from what I see so far, my 400ex friends are going to be pissed they don't have a Predator. Hats off to who ever designed this bad boy.

Yes changing gears will help 14/37 stock, 13/37 works in dunes. 14/38 better all around in my opinion , no you don't "need" to slice up the airbox, yes your suspension is stiff from the factory so yes you can loosen it up.

How much should I loosen up the springs in the front? and the rear?

 

I forgot. What kind of oil should I run? In the manual it says Polaris brand oil and doesn't say what weight it is. I'll be damned if I'm going to spend the money on Polaris oil, it's bad enough that I have to buy a filter from them.

 

Congratulations on your new predator. If your going to leave the pipe stock, I would suggest
a K&N filter in the factory air box. No need to modify the air box with a stock pipe. Change the rear sprocket to a 38 tooth. Helps with the soft bottom end. Run Motul 5w30 oil. It will make it shift better also.

 

It recommends PS-4 oil. It's 10w-40 synthetic.

You don't have to use the Polaris filter.......... Honda 400ex is the identical filter.

How do you adjust the front and rear shocks to "soften" them up?

I know literally nothing about suspension.

I know how to soften the spring from the mechanical end. What I meant was how much is too much? How much pressure if any should be in the spring when the front wheels are off the ground? I'm sure it's trial and error, I'm just looking for kind of a base to start from, and how many turns of the upper spring pad it takes to really do anything
