Default Any consensus on the best winch to use for a p650?

I DO NOT want to have to custom fabricate any type of mounting plate, as I dont have the tools or skills to do so. I want to use the factory kawasaki plate and have the best functioning, reliable winch. I got stuck this weekend 10 feet from a tree

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Cabelas has a mount for %59 bucks that will mount any of the major makes. I went with a Warn 3000lbs. I know many will say that is overkill but can you really have too much? I had a 2500lbs on a Rancher (smaller machine) and had it stall 2 different times while pulling so I went heavier this time just to be safe. remember this is a BIG machine and add mud, strange angles, etc and that can take a LOT of pull. Good luck!!!

I had a warn winch before i bought a ramsey 3000 lbs. with remote (like keyless entry on your car)its way cool and the toggle switch is better than what you get with warn or superwinch.plus the remote that warn offers only goes 6-10 ft. and is on a cord. I bought it from atvdirect.com and I spent $400. dollars with shipping.you get the manuall toggle switch to put on the machine and the remote to take with you when you get stuck(up to 50ft. away).plus it has the same bolt pattern as warn which is what your mounting plate probably is.i think its smoother ,quieter,and faster than warn or superwinch.if you have any questions on install.send me an e-mail or pm.

First off get at least #2000 unit For the most part Ramsey, Warn, and Superwench have been around along time and have been proven over and over again on trucks. Price wise Warn are way over priced compared to SW. The cheapest Warn is over $300; were at a small tool place in the midwest (Northern Tool) I found a SW #2000 for just under $200 and $40 for the roller. Using a ****** block, with my P650 straped th the front of my car trailer, I easly pulled a friends sunbird up the trailer with no stalling or motor frying out. The one thing about the Warn I'll admit is better for the price is the free spooling lever is easier to use

Any winch that gets you unstuck when you need to be unstuck is the best winch!!!! Seriously, I don't think any of them are bad. My Superwinch came with the quad when I bought it and it fit perfectly. The only problem is that it had a Hawse fairlead. They are junk so I made my own roller fairlead. I know you don't have the tools to build one, but you should check out my pics and look at the one I made. Might give you some ideas.

I've narrowed it down pretty much to the Warn 3000lb or the Ramsey 3000lb, leaning toward the Ramsey because of it's keychain CORDLESS remote...The warn has a remote but I dont know what good a 10 foot corded remote is.

I'm curious about mounting plates. As I said, I dont want to fabricate anything, so which is the best mounting plate for either of the above winches? I've heard of a factory kaw mounting plate, as well as a warn one.... Which is the way to go? I just want everything to easily bolt up and work, is that too much to ask?

the winch mounts on the prairie are only good for a 1000lbs. is it safe to get a 3000lbs winch?

My machine came with the superwinch and when I am in a mudhole it will get me out. But if I had it to do over again I would have the warn or ramsey installed for one reason. The release for freespool on the superwinch is a **** on the side of the winch that must be pulled out with 2 fingers and trust me whenever you need it the most this #$@#ing **** will not come out. The warn is very easily put into free spool and Im sure the ramsey is as well. I often have to let the line out electrically and so do other people I know with the same winch. I've tried spraying the **** with no luck. If anyone knows a trick that will free this knnob please let me know. I guess the superwinch is the cheapest price for a reason.

go for the ramsey most people say warn but thats because most people have only had experience with warn or superwinch.the ramsey has a little toggle switch that i put in the handlebar plastic.you dont even know its there unless your looking for it and the cordless remote is much better than warn.the freespool has a better **** one that you can actually lock your fingers in and turn it , the warn **** is just round, sometimes hard to get traction on it.as for the winch plate dont buy one with the rollerfairlead because you get one with the ramsey winch.just get one that fits warn or ramsey (they both have the same bolt pattern).you can find them pretty cheap sometimes on closeout if you search the internet.good luck

bobbyclobber::::

Try caring a screwdriver with you, the biggest one you can. That is the only way I could pry my release **** out at times.
That and the switch that comes with the Superwinch are why I would go with a Warn or Ramsey next time.
