95 Magnum 425
#1
The only quad's I've ever had the opportunity to use were Suzuki KQ300's. I have been extremely happy with them, but I have a chance to pick up a 1995 Magnum 425. I've read a few bad reviews on this machine and am wondering if anybody could shed some light on whether this is a descent machine for hunting/fishing? or at least comparable to the KQ. Thanks in advance.

$3000.00 Canadian Seems like a fairly good deal.I had a chance to take it for a spin and it rides very smooth and lots of power compared to the KQ300. I think it will take a while to get used to not having to shift. This particular unit has some kind of electrical problem though as the lights do not work at all. Another thing I am curious about is how smooth it should shift into low/high/reverse. this one seems to kind of clunk into gear??
Thanks for your advice so far.

Do not be alarmed if the transmission clunks when going into gear. This is typical. If the machine is idling too high, this clunk will be louder. If this is the case, turn down the idle screw a little. As for the electrical problem, start at the light switch with a test light and determine where you have power and go from there. I have a 98 Magnum and love it. It has all the power I ever need and I have not had any major troubles. Bleed the brakes periodically as they tend to stick when the machine sits for a long period.

Have had my 95 Magnum for over four years now and have about 2,600 miles on it. My only problem has been brake pads. I've gone through several sets and therefore learned how to change them myself. Just keep it lubed and it'll treat you fine - I love my magnum

I have no personal experience with the 425 Magnum, but I bought the 425, 5 speed Xpedition because of what I've been told about the 425 motor (and because I was weary about belt drive) from people I know and trust. It has been around for a while now. They will run with a 500, and are very dependable. Now that I have it, I tend to meet alot more people on Polari', and must admit, ocassionally, I wish I had the Auto. My advice, for what it's worth. If it runs good, check it out, make sure nothing's missing (check the tie rod ends). If the price is right, go for it. You will not be disappointed.
