#1
I know that this is a ATV only forum but my question does concern Yamaha. What web site or sites such as this one that can give my info concerning a YZ 250? I am planning on purchaseing a Yamaha YZ 250 and need some info about the bike.

Thanks I will check that out. I am in the process of purchaseing a YZ 250 anyone have any for sale? I have been looking at a 95 model YZ 250 that has been bored twice with new top and bottom end with wiscoe piston and rings. I was wondering what it is worth? Someone told me that the YZ 250 engine was upgaded in 97 and they thought that a 97 and newer would be better than the 95.??

On that 95, I would find out how much the overbore is, and verify that it still has tolerance left for future rebuilds. And I agree, Dirtrider.net would be your best bet to find out info about the bike. If you decide to look at a 4 stroke, check out thumpertalk.com.

Thanks for all the info. I will give Dirtrider.net a try.
I just need as much info about the year 95 and value of the bike before I purchased it. Especialy if it is true that 97 and up are better bikes. I don't want to get stuck with this bike and be dissapointed with it knowing that I could have purchased a better one, that is a little newer, more reliable, and maybe a better price or close to what I would have paid for the 95. Once the money is spent you can't get it back.

"Suggested Retail represents the price a dealership might ask for this make and model. The retail price is not a trade-in or private-party value, but rather assumes that a dealer has absorbed the cost of making the unit ready for sale, advertising, sales commissions, arranging financing and insurance and standing behind the unit for any mechanical or safety problems. Suggested retail represents a fully reconditioned unit in excellent condition, with all original standard equipment. Mileage/condition and additional equipment may have a substantial impact on the value shown above. Actual dealer selling price may vary from this price."

With that website you are armed with figuring out the different values of the bikes. You should be able to post questions on Dirtrider.net for the other info about the engine upgrades. Remember that if the bike is more than a couple years old, you can expect to put some money into it to get it running in good shape again (new top end & suspension). You usually have two ways of thought with the bikes. Myself, I won't keep a bike more than two years, because after that, your resale value starts to drop rapidly. After a couple years, I can sell a bike, add a couple grand to that, and buy the newest and greatest. The other way of thought is to ride the thing till it's almost dead. A guy doesn't decide to sell it until he's left out on a trail somewhere one too many times. Either way, you can't go wrong with the YZ, that bike rocks.

I would get the newest bike you can afford, as long as its in good shape, bikes get alot more attention then quads, and most get updates every year, even if they are small.

Just a quick response to your question on YZ250s. There are a few forums out there, but they may or may not be all that great. I have owned YZs though my whole life and currently have an FMF modded 98 YZ 250 and an 03 stock YZ250. If you have any specific questions, let me know. By the way, both bikes are for sale for the right price. Takce care.

Thanks for all that great info and also for the time and effort that you put into it. The guy was asking $1800 for the bike with new top and bottom end. I went to his house to look and test ride it. When I got their he could not get it started, bought a new plug and it still would not start. After a while of both of us trying it finaly started. I test rod it and to me it is not worth $1800. It ran terrible. So I am still looking for a newer one.
