Raptor one way failure, what are the symptoms?
#1
If my starter one way bearing is going south what are the symptoms? For awhile now when starting it sounds like gnomes are in there pounding the heck out of stuff but it still starts. Once in awhile it'll turn over a slight bit and I'll have to hit the button again kinda like a really dead battery.

I used to have those prblems also. My battery consitentlt tested good. I replaced starter brushes cleaned grounds and to no avail. I tried a tester battery and the bike fired right away. Since I updated with a battery with 60 more cold cranking amps ytx20. Do a double long load test on your battery and se what happens.

Mine has the exact symptom as yours and also still works. I have to hit the button, then stab it again sometimes.
I am gonna replace the one-way, since it started to make the aweful noise after the starter free spun a couple times. Then see if I still have the noise.
It has been like this for about a year now, and works still.. so..

Gentlemen...if the starter "free-spins", you have problems....and they are probably the 1-way bearing. Don't ride until it's fixed....small spring parts are floating around in your oil.

Is this a problem on all years or just the 01s?? I have an 02 and have never had any starter issues, but I am seeing more and more about the one way, Is this something that we all have to watch for?
