Dyno Numbers??? strange!
#1
We'll howdy again. I thought that I would check in with you guys after I did my mods and Dyno runs. I posted a topic which asked you how to make my bike work well for me. I'm the 6'10"/300lb guy. After taking your suggestions, I now have a 03 DS with a Big Gun race pipe/header, RW rev box, KN direct mount with dyno work done with jetting. This company doesn't like Dynojet kit jetting for the simple fact that they say "every bike is different" and that they would rather tune my bike specifically instead of using a kit from someone elses dyno tuning. What ever...... I was supposed to have the clutch springs put in (picked them up from Ron Woods - 40%) but they didn't want to put them in because I didn't have a new gasket. Needless to say, one is on order.
We'll the numbers don't lie. My bike measured 40.5rwhp at 8650rpm. I thought that was low until they told me what they get with other bikes.
Banshee 26 - 28rwhp (stock)
Raptor 28 - 30rwhp (stock)
My Sportsman 700 was the bike DynoJet used for the test bike for the DynoJet kit. I have a prototype needle, different jetting and about 6 dyno runs on the big dog. We also did runs with an aftermarket custom pipe. Cool info to have, also kind of neat to know that I have the test bike. That quad produced: 24.5rwhp with the pipe on.
Skip at SandTech here in Las Vegas says that I gained about 9 - 10rwhp. According to my math, that is about 25%. I'd say that is a good day's work.
Problem is that I've seen all kinds of RWHP numbers that all seem exceedingly high. I just read a post that claimed stock 42rwhp. doesn't seem to mesh with the raw data. I was also told that after the first big initial gain, staged increases are in the 1 - 2rwhp arena with the exception of the Compression increase stage.
My seat of the pants tells me that this is one fast MOTHER! Don't know how it will compare to regular sized people on their bikes - but it should be interesting. Any guesses what will happen at Dumont this weekend? I've raced a 417kit 400 EX and I blew it's doors off. I've raced a Scrammy 500, and completely destroyed it. I gave it a head start of about 20 ft and flew by, looked at him and shifted into 5th as I went by. My neighbor owns both these bikes and weighs about 180lbs.
What will the dunes hold for me.... I wonder.

Well Dyno #'s has been discussed on here many times, and the general rule of thumb is, Dyno's are ALL different! They should be only used as Tuning tools for your mods. Remember that Dyno #'s should be Relative, Meaning that you should only compare your numbers to other bikes on that same dyno/and preferably on the same day. Example:
At FSW-2 JiminOK dynoed 36hp on his pipe/jetted DS, then that night changed to a 45mm carb/on ALKY and the next day Dyno'd 56hp. Now everyone knows that you cant get 20hp from a carb and fuel, SO that dyno had changed from one day to the next. I suspect that JiminOK should have been around 42hp(which is great).

Just to give you a standard for compairison on that dyno, I'll fill you in on the desert race bike that I set up. It was tested in stock form on a different dyno, but after the mods, that dyno was no longer available, and I had to start using Skips.
With a Big Gun Exhaust, Team Pami sport cams, 11.2:1 compresion piston, moderate port work[stock valves], and a Mikuni 45MM carb breathing through the air box with the lid on, we got just over 50RWHP. His dyno does seam rather conservative compaired to others that I have used. My personal bike only dyno'ed at 60RWHP on Sand Tech's dyno, while others have shown it to be 70. Don't worry about compairing it to other peoples dyno #'s, just use that info to compair it to itself with any future mods.

BigDaddy331, as for dumont this weekend, it sounds like youve got your bike pretty dialed in... I know a guy who is going to dumont this weekend also, we may also go to ,and im sure you could possibly be a good contender..he likes to run the hill "comp hill" he has a DS with red rims and he claims to be the fastest! he says he is undefeated by any other ds .. well see you at the dunes....later

well that is great that you are happy with the ds if i'm not reading yourthread wrong you are asking what to expect at the dunes? if i'm wrong i'm sorry, but here goes when you hit the sand the power loss is noticed. what was a nice powerful quad seems tamed. i tryied gearing to overcome some of this loss, but what you gain down low, youlose on top, there is aarea in there that i think you gain in both areas. anyways that is where the bug bites you, if only i had a pipe, then only if i had a piston, and then if i'm doing the piston might as well do the cams, and with that the springs, oh well might as well port while i'm here. and eventually you will be how much is the760. it is a sick thing that gets ahold of grown men then they can't wait to ride again, oh my medcine must be wearing off. hey have fun and let us know about your next mods

I'll be at LVMS friday evening[5:30-9:30]. If you talk to him befor then, tell him to bring it out. I work weekends, so I can't come out to Dumont.
If it's the bike I'm thinking about, he's not that fast. Al and I are pretty close since the dual carbs[I won most of the time, but he has beet me a couple of times], and Jeff[of river city fame] are the only DS's to have ever beeten me.
