Default case machining with stock sleeve?

Just curious, in case I have to split cases with a trans failure (not yet!) can you bore the cases for the 105mm piston without actually installing the new sleeve? Just a thought to ponder while I wait for my catastrophic failure on the transmission. I figure if I've got the case split anyhow I might as well spend the few dollars for the future mod.

My advise would be to consider a stronger rod as well .

I figure if I have to split the case I might as well do the rod too, I just dont know if I can still run with 686 after machining the case?
