NO, I think its more like 7-8lbs = 1hp. Some where along those lines.

This is from Motorcycle News magazine, if any of you ahve read it. I know its for bikes but maybe it relates.

5lbs of NON-rotating weight = 1HP
1lbs of rotating weight = 1HP

It has been a LOOOONG time since I read that article but I think thats what it said.

 

In general,
10hp = 2mph
25#'s = 2mph
25#'s = 10hp

Now this is NON-rotating mass and is based on 1/4mi times on a motorcycle. Since ATV's are simmilar in weight to bikes, it should apply. Only to 1/4mi times though. Prolly does'nt help you much, but interesting to know....[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

i lost close to 20lbs. on rotating weight and gained about 2 full HP on a dyno. i also lost about 50LBS. total weight on the DS and only went .07 quicker in 300' sand drags. for a 4 stroke i think losing weight is over rated.


i think a 2 stroke motor with no torque may gain more.

i have noticed that rider weight on samcoes 760 pami doesn't change the preformance. to a banshee it would be very noticeable difference.

 

I only weigh 115lbs, and it seems to come to a very big advantage for me. Especially when Dusty (roostinonyou) lets me pilot his DS. It's like gaining 10hp.

 

i guess some bikes are different. we have let biggerisbetter ride our bikes and he doesn't slow them down any.
