Anyone runnng av gas? If so what are your opinions on it. Does it produce as good of power as race gas. Is it harder on the engine?

I have heard that av gas is something to stay away from as it is engineered to be used at high altitudes. I have read alot of places to stay away from it because it can cause big problems in your atv. Honestly I have never used it, but I am sure some have and that is why I heed their warning.

My sister has a 250r (modded motor) and we run av gas in it. we bought it from the original owner and he has always ran av gas in it. It runs good and strong and so far no problems.

It all goes back to having enough octane for the given engine. Av gas is 100 octane no-lead. I have heard it has ethylene glycol to keep it from freezing at high altitude. I ran it in my drag car for a long time with no problem. It is a dry fuel and will leak past gaskets that regular fuel wouldnt. The addition of the oil from 2-cycle mixing I would think would make for a great fuel to run. It's not real easy for me to get ahold of it where I live, so I have to stick with other fuels.Bubba

Oh well, like I said, I have never used it, I just read somewhere about It. So I guess It would be a personal preference thing.

Well since the hpd race mod requires 108 motor octane I would assume 100 wouldn't be enough?

No I wouldn't think It would be. If you don't have racing gas easily available but you do have av. gas available, I would go for it. I have ordered 10 gallons of Klotz 113 racing gas (108 motor octane)and after all the fees and shipping the total was $120.00 for 5 gallons!!! Bubba races his quad and knows alot about these things, so If he says It is ok, I would listen to him. I just wanted to clear-up my statement that I made earlier because I felt like I needed to show that I had heard this somewhere, but you know you can hear alot of things anywhere!! I saw at the GNCC race today that 5 gallons of that same gas was $30 for 5 gallons, so If you have a race coming near you soon you could buy some there.

Polarisfreak, if you require the 108 fuel, dont use the Av gas. Our airport where I lived before carried the 100 blue version. The HPD setup is loud and you probably wont hear the detonation coming from it. NC, that's some good info for everyone. I was only running 12:1 in that drag car when I used that stuff. When I ran 14:5 I had to run the good race gas. Polarisfreak, you live in Tulsa and there is a 1/4 mile dragstrip there. Go there on Sat night and buy some good stuff. They make 110 race fuel. VP makes a red fuel that is pretty cheap, but If I'm not mistaken I think it's only 106 octane. Also you can mix them to get what you want. Our dragstrip even carries 100 octane no lead gas too. You can buy a few gallons of high octane fuel and mix with premium, or buy more of a lower number and mix it like that. Whichever is cheapest. Definitely run what you need to prevent engine damage. Whatever you do, keep it the same or you'll have to constantly be changing the jetting. Straight race fuel would be the best and you would never have any worries. I buy the 112 octane Sunoco for $5 a gallon. Bubba
