Default z400 power gains (k&n + jetting) ???

My dad has a z400 and the first thing he did to it was put a yoshi slip-on on it and 13 tooth front sprocket (down 1). Now he wants a k&n and to re-jet it. I was wondering how noticable the power gains will be? If you have done it how do you like it now? or have you seen one run with pipe, k&n, jetting? thanks for any help or info you got.

I have the Full Yoshi system with the Pro Design filter and dynojet kit. I know that when I installed the filter and re-jetted it, I noticed a big improvement in low end. The stock filter really limits the air flow for the Z. I hear that K&N's flow better than foam filters so I'd imagine he would see great improvement. The most important factor is the jetting because no matter what set up hes got, if the jetting is off, it will run no better than stock, or maybe even worse.

I did all of my mods at the same time (k&n, jetting, slipon) and it was a totally different bike. It gave it a lot better low end and the full range was increased.

I just rejetted my KFX 400 this evening....WOW!!!! Some people that have rejetted their Z's have told me that after they do so it's a night and day difference......They are right! I could not beleive it I will be getting a new filter soon but for now I've just taken the snorkel off and removed the air box lid.

Well I'm not sure exactly about the jetting since my setup is a little different. Does he have Dynojet or Mikuni jets? I would say about a 160 Mikuni with those mods would be about right at sea level. The only way to really tell though is to buy an assortment and try them out, starting with the large ones and moving down until you get it right. Check the spark plug to see how it looks also. Good luck

TeamGrnMojave269-how do you like the Muzzy pipe? Have you ridden a Z with a different pipe, and if so, how does the Muzzy compare? Thanks

I love it It sounds awesome (I like things loud) and combined with the 150 main jet it's awesome. You can't beat it for the price I paid $195 for stainless slipon. The only Z/kfx I've ridden is mine so I really can't give you a comparison like that but I really do like mine.

All I did was change the jet I didn't touch the needle or air screw.
